TL;DR: A new method of interactive assembly that uses both kinematic constraints and guiding virtual fixtures for haptic assembly of 3D objects in virtual reality and computed aided design.
Abstract: In the context of virtual reality (VR) and of computed aided design (CAD), haptic simulations are used to perform assembly tasks between 3D objects To ensure the good assembly of those objects, we propose a new method of interactive assembly that uses both kinematic constraints and guiding virtual fixtures Modelling a haptic assembly task as a combination of mechanical joints, we focus on the guidance of objects and on the activation cues of kinematic constraints in physical simulation In this article, we first outline the difficulties related to the haptic-assembly of CAD objects in VR simulation Introducing the virtual constraint guidance (VCG), we present a new method for haptic guidance that decomposes a task in two independent steps: a guiding step which use geometries as virtual fixtures to position objects, and a functional step which use kinematic constraints to perform the assembly task We finally present a complete application of our method on a peg-in-hole insertion task

TL;DR: It is shown that the constrained existence problem for Nash equilibria in (pure or randomised) stationary strategies is decidable and the result holds even for a restricted class of concurrent games, where nonzero rewards occur only on terminal states.
Abstract: We study the computational complexity of Nash equilibria in concurrent games with limit-average objectives. In particular, we prove that the existence of a Nash equilibrium in randomised strategies is undecidable, while the existence of a Nash equilibrium in pure strategies is decidable, even if we put a constraint on the payoff of the equilibrium. Our undecidability result holds even for a restricted class of concurrent games, where nonzero rewards occur only on terminal states. Moreover, we show that the constrained existence problem is undecidable not only for concurrent games but for turn-based games with the same restriction on rewards. Finally, we prove that the constrained existence problem for Nash equilibria in (pure or randomised) stationary strategies is decidable and analyse its complexity.

TL;DR: For analysis of the time-resolved fluorescence experiments of VFPs, the maximum entropy method procedure is utilised to obtain a distribution of fluorescence lifetimes and distributed lifetime patterns turn out to have diagnostic value, for instance, in observing populations of V FP pairs that are FRET-inactive.
Abstract: Forster resonance energy transfer (FRET) is a powerful method for obtaining information about small-scale lengths between biomacromolecules. Visible fluorescent proteins (VFPs) are widely used as spectrally different FRET pairs, where one VFP acts as a donor and another VFP as an acceptor. The VFPs are usually fused to the proteins of interest, and this fusion product is genetically encoded in cells. FRET between VFPs can be determined by analysis of either the fluorescence decay properties of the donor molecule or the rise time of acceptor fluorescence. Time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy is the technique of choice to perform these measurements. FRET can be measured not only in solution, but also in living cells by the technique of fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM), where fluorescence lifetimes are determined with the spatial resolution of an optical microscope. Here we focus attention on time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy of purified, selected VFPs (both single VFPs and FRET pairs of VFPs) in cuvette-type experiments. For quantitative interpretation of FRET-FLIM experiments in cellular systems, details of the molecular fluorescence are needed that can be obtained from experiments with isolated VFPs. For analysis of the time-resolved fluorescence experiments of VFPs, we have utilised the maximum entropy method procedure to obtain a distribution of fluorescence lifetimes. Distributed lifetime patterns turn out to have diagnostic value, for instance, in observing populations of VFP pairs that are FRET-inactive.

TL;DR: A new multiscale filter accelerating Monte Carlo renderer based on the ray color values only, which provides a psnr gain of 10 to 15 decibels, or equivalently accelerates the rendering process by using 10 to 30 times fewer samples without observable bias.
Abstract: This article proposes a new multiscale filter accelerating Monte Carlo renderer. Each pixel in the image is characterized by the colors of the rays that reach its surface. The proposed filter uses a statistical distance to compare with each other the ray color distributions associated with different pixels, at each scale. Based on this distance, it decides whether two pixels can share their rays or not. This simple and easily reproducible algorithm provides a psnr gain of 10 to 15 decibels, or equivalently accelerates the rendering process by using 10 to 30 times fewer samples without observable bias. The algorithm is consistent, does not assume a particular noise model, and is immediately extendable to synthetic movies. Being based on the ray color values only, it can be combined with all rendering effects.
