TL;DR: An experimental test of quantum complementarity with single-photon pulses sent into a Mach-Zehnder interferometer with an output beam splitter of adjustable reflection coefficient R finds measured values of V and D to fulfill the complementarity relation V2+D2 < or =1.
Abstract: We report an experimental test of quantum complementarity with single-photon pulses sent into a Mach-Zehnder interferometer with an output beam splitter of adjustable reflection coefficient R. In addition, the experiment is realized in Wheeler's delayed-choice regime. Each randomly set value of R allows us to observe interference with visibility V and to obtain incomplete which-path information characterized by the distinguishability parameter D. Measured values of V and D are found to fulfill the complementarity relation V2+D2 < or =1.

19 Apr 2009TL;DR: Affine-SIFT (ASIFT) is introduced, a fully affine invariant image comparison method that permits to reliably identify features that have undergone very large affine distortions measured by a new parameter, the transition tilt.
Abstract: A fully affine invariant image comparison method, Affine-SIFT (ASIFT) is introduced. While SIFT is fully invariant with respect to only four parameters namely zoom, rotation and translation, the new method treats the two left over parameters : the angles defining the camera axis orientation. Against any prognosis, simulating all views depending on these two parameters is feasible. The method permits to reliably identify features that have undergone very large affine distortions measured by a new parameter, the transition tilt. State-of-the-art methods hardly exceed transition tilts of 2 (SIFT), 2.5 (Harris-Affine and Hessian-Affine) and 10 (MSER). ASIFT can handle transition tilts up 36 and higher (see Fig. 1).

TL;DR: In this article, a laboratory investigation is conducted to study the hydraulic conductivity of CPBs and develop a model for predicting its evolution with time, and the results show that the hydraulic performance of CPB is time-dependent.

TL;DR: Square-shaped two-dimensional optical microc Cavities (micro-cavities) were investigated for possible applications as filters for dense wavelength-division multiplexing and accounted for the multimode spectrum by different normal modes with rays confined by total internal reflection.
Abstract: Square-shaped two-dimensional optical microcavities (micro-cavities) were investigated for possible applications as filters for dense wavelength-division multiplexing. Multimode cavity resonances were observed in the elastic scattering of approximately 200-microm square-shaped micro-cavities in fused silica. Based on a two-dimensional k-space representation, we accounted for the multimode spectrum by different normal modes with rays confined by total internal reflection. The cavity-mode trajectories need not be closed after each round trip. Single-mode spectra are expected from smaller square-shaped micro-cavities.
