The efficacy of topical, oral and surgical interventions for the treatment of tungiasis: A systematic review of the literature.

Abstract: Background Tungiasis is a neglected disease caused by Tunga penetrans that can be complicated by secondary infections and local tissue destruction. Adequate treatment is important, especially in vulnerable populations; potential treatment options proposed range from surgical extraction to the use of oral and topical medications. We aimed to perform a systematic review to assess the efficacy of topical, oral and surgical interventions for the treatment of tungiasis. Methodology/Principal findings The present review is registered in PROSPERO (CRD42021234741). On September 1, 2020, we searched PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus, Web of Science, Science Direct, Scielo and LILACS BVS. We included clinical trials and longitudinal observational studies that evaluated any topical, systemic or mechanical treatment for tungiasis. We used the Revised Cochrane Risk of Bias (RoB) Tool for Randomized Trials for clinical trial analysis. Qualitative and quantitative descriptive syntheses were performed. Our search strategy resulted in 3376 references. Subsequently, 2568 titles/abstracts and 114 full texts were screened. We finally included 19 articles; 9 were classified as clinical trials. Two and 3 articles presented low and some RoB, respectively, according to the tool. Only two articles tested the efficacy of oral medications (niridazole, ivermectin), with discouraging results. Six clinical trials evaluated topical products for the treatment of tungiasis; 2 evaluated dimeticone-based compounds and reported positive results in lesion reduction and cure. None reported significant adverse reactions. Surgical extraction was evaluated only in observational studies. Conclusions/Significance We conclude that, although surgical extraction is the most commonly used treatment, there is sufficient evidence supporting the use of occlusive agents, especially manufactured dimeticone-based products.

Synthesis, characterization and thermal (tg-dsc) study of yttrium methanesulfonate coordination compounds with pyridine N-oxide and 2-,3- and 4-picoline N-oxides

Abstract: The synthesis, characterization and thermal (TG and DSC) study of the coordination compounds Y(MS)3A(py-NO)2AH2O, Y(MS)3A(2-picNO)3, Y(MS)3A(3-picNO)2 and La(MS)3A(4-picNO)2 are reported (MS = methanesulfonate, py-NO = pyridine N-oxide, and 2-picNO, 3-picNO and 4-picNO are 2-, 3- and 4-picoline N-oxides, respectively). The observed thermal stability trend is: 2-picNO ≈ 4-picNO< 3-picNO< py-NO. Release of ligand molecules (endothermic) is followed by thermal degradation of the ligands (exothermic) with an increase in the exothermic values from 2-picNO to 4-picNO.

Da invisibilidade à visibilidade negativa das religiões de matriz africana na televisão brasileira

Abstract: Este trabalho pretendeu apurar informacoes sobre programas de TV com conteudos religiosos postos nas grades de tres emissoras brasileiras (Globo, Record e SBT), fazendo um comparativo entre o que era apresentado nos sites dessas emissoras em 2010 e atualmente (2015). A intencao foi buscar demonstrar a forte presenca das religioes na midia televisiva aberta, principalmente, das Igrejas Neopentecostais e Catolica, e como elas tem formado uma hegemonia que marginaliza os demais seguimentos e, em especial, as religioes de matriz africana. No desenvolvimento do trabalho dois aspectos principais foram abordados, o primeiro e o proselitismo dessas religioes dominantes na TV; e, o segundo, e o processo de demonizacao que sofrem as religioes afro-brasileiras atraves da televisao, chegando ate as relacoes sociais. Para melhor entendimento, os dados coletados foram organizados em tabelas, apresentadas nesse trabalho. Posteriormente, foi realizada a analise dos dados coletados, buscando a associacao com as discussoes teoricas existentes sobre o assunto. Como conclusao foi possivel confirmar a invisibilidade sofrida pelas religioes de matriz africana, assim como, as constantes situacoes de intolerância e discriminacao a qual estao expostas estas religioes. Alem disso, ficou clara a fragilidade do Estado em relacao a necessidade de garantir o direito a diversidade religiosa nos espacos de comunicacao de massa como a televisao, e ainda a inoperância frente ao acumulo de poder de seguimentos religiosos majoritarios por meio da midia televisiva.

New species of the genus Macrogynoplax and new records of Anacroneuria (Plecoptera: Perlidae) from Roraima State, Brazil.

Abstract: Adults of Plecoptera of the family Perlidae were studied from seven municipalities of Roraima State, Brazil. One new species of Macrogynoplax Enderlein, 1909 was discovered and is described. We also report seven species of Anacroneuria Klapalek 1909 that represent two new country records for Brazil, A. caraca Stark, 1995 and A. cruza Stark, 1995, and five species, A. atrifrons Klapalek, 1922, A. blanca Stark, 1995, A. minuta Klapalek 1922, A. marlieri Froehlich 2001 and A. pictipes Klapalek 1923 that are new records for Roraima State. Additionally, we reported variant specimens of A. marlieri and A. minuta.
