Frequency of CCR5 genotypes in HIV-infected patients in Roraima, Brazil.

Abstract: The expression of CCR5 gene, located on the short arm of chromosome three (3p21.31), leads to the formation of a protein that acts as a receptor for several chemokines.1 A deletion of 32 base pairs gives rise to an important Rs333 polymorphism. The heterozygous genotype CCR5/ 32 produces partially functional receptors while the homozygous recessive 32/ 32 features a non-functional receptor.2 Information about the prevalence of Rs333 is an essential aspect of medical decisions, mainly for CCR5 blockers prescription to HIV patients. Furthermore, immunogenetics studies that include the prevalence of CCR5 genes or other genetic factors in the population of Roraima State, Brazil, were not found in the literature. To determine the prevalence of Rs333 polymorphism located in the CCR5 gene, we designed a cross-sectional study with HIV-infected patients living in Roraima, who had blood sent for analyses at the Central Laboratory of Roraima State (LACEN/RR). The Ethics Research Committee (REC) from the Federal University of Roraima (COEP/UFRR) approved this research (CAAE number: 15629013.8.0000.5302). Subsequently, 5 mL of blood samples were collected from 120 HIV-1 infected patients between January 2014 and February 2014. Genomic DNA was extracted using the automated system QIAcube, with QIAamp DNABlood Kit (QIAGEN, Germany) followed by PCR amplification as described previously3 and agarose gel electrophoresis. Three of these samples were rejected. Thus, our sampling represents more than 10% of all HIV-infected patients, including patients from 12 out of 14 municipalities in the Roraima state. Two genotypes were found in this group of patients: 106 patients had CCR5/CCR5 represented by a single fragment of 137 bp, and 11 patients had CCR5/CCR5 32 characterized by two fragments, one of 137 bp and another of 105pb. Nevertheless, the CCR5 32/CCR5 32 genotype was not found in this study (Table 1). Roraima is one of the newest states of the Brazilian Federation and one of the principal mining centers in the country during the 80s and 90s, which attracted Brazilians from other regions contributing to the population miscegenation.4 The 32 allele has its origin in Europe; in Brazil it has different frequencies varying from 4.2% in the North region, to 6.4% in the South and 0.2% in Native americans.5 That frequency in the Table 1 – Occurrence of genotypes, genotype frequency and allele frequency of the CCR5 gene in Roraima, Brazil.

Nutritional status and biomass of african mahogany seedlings grown with nutrient solution in the Northern Amazon

Abstract: The objective of this work was to determine aspects about growth variables and dry mass partition of Khaya senegalensis seedlings and the nutrient absorption rate, depending on the seasons and mineral fertilization. The experimental design used was completely randomized, in a 2x6 factorial scheme. Two levels of nutrient solution factor (without addition) and six levels of time factor (0; 60; 80; 100; 120 and 140 days). Four replications were used, each one consisting of 10 seedlings. To evaluate the quality of the seedlings, morphological parameters, relationships and quality indexes were considered: Height (H; cm); collar diameter (CD; mm); shoot dry mass (SDM; g plant -1 ); dry root mass (DRM; g plant -1 ); total dry mass (TDM = SDW + RDW; g plant -1 ); shoot dry mass and root dry mass ratio (SDM/DRM); robustness index (RI = H / DC; cm mm -1 ); the Dickson quality index (DQI) and the accumulation of macronutrients in the shoots and root system. It is recommended to add solution for seedlings of Khaya senegalensis from 100 days after transplanting in the selected nursery in the Amazon. The maintenance of Khaya senegalensis seedlings with the use of the nutrient solution provides the best conditions for the use of macronutrients and obtaining suitable seedlings for the field in 140 days after transplanting in the selected nursery in Roraima.

Sistemas deposicionais fluviais: análise estratigráfica das unidades sedimentares da formação boa vista, nordeste da bacia do tacutu, rr.

Abstract: A Formacao Boa Vista e unidade sedimentar de idade neogena que ocorre no âmbito geologico do hemigraben Tacutu, porcao centro nordeste do estado de Roraima, cuja sedimentacao efetivou-se durante a sua estruturacao. Trata-se de uma unidade sedimentar relativamente rasa, cuja espessura varia de acordo com a conformacao do embasamento entre 15 a 120 metros. Composta por duas sucessoes sedimentares semi-consolidadas, sendo a inferior composta por cascalhos com graos de tamanhos variando entre grânulo a matacao e a superior composta por areias ferruginosas, levemente conglomeraticas. O presente trabalho foi realizado em tres afloramentos localizados no municipio do Bonfim, nordeste do estado de Roraima, em area exposta por acao antropica onde se realizava extracao de agregados minerais para construcao civil, tratando-se de um discreto alto geografico adjacente a Serra do Tucano. Sua compartimentacao estratigrafica e distribuicao geografica permanecem ainda pouco conhecidas, bem como o ambiente deposicional correspondente permanece desconhecido. Este trabalho realizou um estudo estratigrafico litofaciologico e de fotointerpretacao geologica com o objetivo de investigar seu provavel ambiente deposicional. As três fases das Migrações Internacionais Portuguesas no pós-guerra

Abstract: O objetivo do artigo e destacar a logica migratoria em Portugal, um pais marcado pelo predominio de levas emigratorias. Entretanto, com o fim do Imperio Colonial, com a redemocratizacao e com a entrada na Comunidade Europeia, passou a receber levas de imigrantes, notadamente das ex-colonias, em busca de melhores oportunidades nesse pais que demonstrava oportunidades para que esses migrantes se estabelecessem e melhorassem de vida. Nos anos 1990, alem dos imigrantes das ex-colonias, comecaram a chegar grupos de outras localidades, com destaque para pessoas vindas do Leste Europeu e da Asia. O texto dividira essas migracoes do periodo do pos-guerra em tres fases distintas, importantes para se analisar os impactos que os movimentos migratorios no contexto do pais e em termos populacionais.
