TL;DR: In this paper, a qualitative approach based on Amazonian narration about the dolphin was used to understand the colonial meeting between tradicional people from Amazon and the white man, and proved that enchantment narration is still in old people´s memories.
Abstract: The Amazonian narratives are created and elaborated by the human imagination. They demonstrate elements, wich are necessary to be registered and analyzed in Amazonian context. This work seeks to evidence the tradicional and oral culture through an interdisciplinary perspective in Comunidade da Missao, in Tefe city, Amazonas. When people describe past events, they provide historical, social and cultural information about the place they live. This events are indispensable for historical and identity contribution about this place. This research had a qualitative approach and was based on Amazonian narration about the dolphin, seeking to comprehend the colonial meeting between tradicional people from Amazon and the white man; as weel as the erotic and virile carachteristics this mith can assume as a mythological configuration of women´s opressor, victims of patriarchy. The research problem emerged due to the historical background about the community; it is still presented through the colonizer perspective, because there are few writing records from our ancestors. In order to support this research we were based on the following authors: Bourdieu (2002), Eliade (2016), Slater (1994) and Thompson (1992). This work consolidated the tradicional and oral culture in Missao, and we proved that enchantment narration is still in old people´s memories. The enchantment narration show events that helped us to understand the consequences of colonial meeting, the patriarchy consolidation in our society and violence against women under masculine domination.

TL;DR: Overall, the social context at the court was the strongest predictor of within-population variations in male courtship display, whereas light conditions only affected display duration.
Abstract: Sexual selection predicts evolution of secondary sexual traits favoring mating. Here, we address the within population variation in courtship display behavior among male White-throated Manakins, Corapipo gutturalis, from Central Amazonia. We repeatedly quantified the courtship display elements used by 16 males over multiple days and specifically tested whether male presence and displays at courts could be explained by variation in environmental conditions (forest shade with small sunny gaps, large sunny gaps, and cloudy), male age (juvenile or adult), or yet the social context (other males and female visits) during displays. Our results show that total male presence and time displaying varied with the total number of other males and female visits at the court. In addition, the type of courtship elements used in displays (assessed by principal component analysis) also varied with the presence of both females and other males on the court. Male age, however, did not influence male activity. Overall, the social context at the court was the strongest predictor of within-population variations in male courtship display, whereas light conditions only affected display duration. Variation in display repertoire with female presence might reflect variation in female preferences. In addition, similar displays among males of different age classes suggest a competitive, rather than cooperative lek system of White-throated Manakins in Central Amazonia.

TL;DR: Genomic approaches revealed that the pyomelanin biosynthetic pathway in A. baumannii presented a particular architecture concerning the peripheral (tyrB, phhB and hpd) and central (hmgB, hmgC and hmgR) metabolic pathway genes.
Abstract: BACKGROUND Acinetobacter baumannii outbreaks have been associated with pandemic International Clones (ICs), however the virulence factors involved with their pathogenicity are sparsely understood. OBJECTIVES This study aimed to characterize the reddish-brown pigment produced by A. baumannii strains, and to determine its biosynthetic pathway by genomic approaches. METHODS Pigment characterization was conducted by phenotypic tests in different growth conditions. The clonal relationship among A. baumannii was obtained by PFGE and MLST and antimicrobial susceptibility test was performed by Disc-Diffusion method. The genome of one representative strain was obtained for characterization of genes involved with pigment production. FINDINGS The virulence-associated pyomelanin was the pigment produced by A. baumannii. These strains were extensively drug resistant and belonged to the IC-5/ST79. Genomic approaches revealed that the pyomelanin biosynthetic pathway in A. baumannii presented a particular architecture concerning the peripheral (tyrB, phhB and hpd) and central (hmgB, hmgC and hmgR) metabolic pathway genes. The identification of a distant HmgA homologue, probably without dioxygenase activity, could explain pyomelanin production. Virulence determinants involved with adherence (csuA/BABCDE and a T5bSS-carrying genomic island), and iron uptake (basABCDEFGHIJ, bauABCDEF and barAB) were also characterized. MAIN CLONCLUSION The pyomelanin production together with other virulence determinants could play a role in A. baumannii pathogenicity.
