TL;DR: Medical students are motivated by sense of purpose or duty, altruism, perception of good performance and values of professionalism more than their interest in learning in the COVID19 pandemic.
Abstract: Background There has been a rapid increase in the number of cases of COVID-19 in Latin America, Africa and Asia, in many countries that have an insufficient number of physicians and other health care personnel, and the need for the inclusion of medical students as part of the health teams is a very important issue. It has been recommended that medical students work as volunteers, have appropriate training, do not undertake any activity beyond their level of competence, have continuous supervision and adequate personal protective equipment. However, motivation of medical students must be evaluated in order to make volunteering a more evidence-based initiative. The aim of our study was to evaluate motivation of medical students to be part of the heath team tohelp in the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods and Findings We developed a questionnaire specifically to evaluate medical student’s perceptions about participating in care of patients with suspected infection due to coronavirus during the COVID-19 pandemic. The questionnaire had two parts: a) individual characteristics, year and geographic location of medical school; b) twenty-eight statements responded on a 5-point Likert scale (totally agree, agree, neither agree nor disagree, disagree and totally disagree). To develop the questionnaire, we performed consensus meetings of a group of faculty and medical students. The questionnaire was sent to student organizations of 257 medical schools in Brazil and answered by 10,433 students. We used multinomial logistic regression models to analyse the data. Statements with greater odds ratios for participation of medical students in COVID-19 pandemic were related to sense of purpose or duty (“It is the duty of the medical student to put himself at the service of the population in the pandemic”), altruism (“I am willing to take risks by participating in practical in the context of pandemic”), perception of good performance and professional identity (“I will be a better health professional for having experienced the pandemic”). Males had higher odds ratios than females (1.36 [95% CI: 1.24 – 1.49] to 1.68 [95% CI: 1.47 – 1.91]). Conclusions Medical students are motivated by sense of purpose or duty, altruism, perception of good performance and values of professionalism more than their interest in learning. These results have implications in the developing of programs of volunteering and in the design of health force policies in the present pandemic and in future health emergencies.

TL;DR: Development of nodules and plant growth were lower in the application of cassava wastewater when compared to that in treatment with mineral fertilization and there were no differences in cowpea nodulation when the three types of wastewater from homemade Cassava flour production were compared.
Abstract: Current research, undertaken at the Embrapa greenhouse in Boa Vista RR Brazil, investigated the influence of three types of wastewaters from homemade Cassava flour production on the nodulation of cowpea (Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp. ). Assay, a completely randomized design with four replications, consisted of nine treatments with three applications of wastewater (wastewater from fresh cassava dough, wastewater from mixed cassava dough, and wastewater from cassava gum) on two occasions (five days before sowing and ten days after emergence): water application only; with mineral fertilizer and water application only without seed inoculation (control). Analysis comprised stem diameter, number of nodes, chlorophyll content, number and dry weight of nodules, dry mass weight of shoot and dry matter of plant. Results obtained from treatments with 100 m3 ha-1 cassava applied five days before planting were higher than those applied ten days after emergence. Development of nodules and plant growth were lower in the application of cassava wastewater when compared to that in treatment with mineral fertilization. There were no differences in cowpea nodulation when the three types of wastewater from homemade Cassava flour production were compared.

TL;DR: Women undergoing gynecological operations due to benign disease had a mean age of 47 years, most had levels of basic education, came from the capital, were in stable relationships, predominantly housewives, multiparous and showed low operative complication rates.
Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the epidemiological profile and the operative complications of patients undergoing gynecological operations for benign diseases in a tertiary public hospital in the state of Roraima, Brazil. Methods: We conducted a retrospective survey through the analysis of 518 records of patients submitted to gynecological operations between January and June 2012. We included the three major operations during this period (n = 175): hysterectomy, colpoperineoplasty and suburethral sling placement. We excluded 236 cases of tubal ligation and 25 cases where it was not possible to access to medical records. Results: The mean age was 47.6 years; the education level of most patients was completed junior high (36.6%); 77% were from the State capital, 47.4% were in stable relationships and 26.3% were housewives. The majority of patients had given birth three or more times (86.6%), with previous vaginal delivery in 50.2%, and cesarean delivery, 21%. The main diagnostic indications for surgical treatment were uterine myoma (46.3%), urinary incontinence (27.4%) and genital dystopias (17.7%). We found three cases (1.7%) of high-grade intraepithelial lesions on Pap smear. The most common procedure was total hysterectomy (19.8%), 15.5% vaginally. The most common complication was wound infection (2.2%). Conclusion: Women undergoing gynecological operations due to benign disease had a mean age of 47 years, most had levels of basic education, came from the capital, were in stable relationships, predominantly housewives, multiparous and showed low operative complication rates.

TL;DR: The serum biochemistry before and after ovariohisterectomy of 20 dogs treated at the Veterinary Hospital of the Federal University of Piaui detected normocytic anemia in two moments and leukocytosis, change common in the disease.
Abstract: In order to evaluate the renal function of bitches with pyometra, it was analyzed the serum biochemistry before and after ovariohisterectomy of 20 dogs treated at the Veterinary Hospital of the Federal University of Piaui. Animals with more than seven years old and mixed breed were the most affected. The clinical signs most frequently noted was vaginal discharge, characteristic of open cervix pyometra. It was detected normocytic anemia in two moments. It also demonstrated leukocytosis, change common in the disease. Seric levels of urea and creatinine remained increased in some animals, even after surgery, possibly due to renal dysfunction acting concurrently with pyometra. Knowledge of change in indicators of renal function both before and after removal of the uterus is important because allows to select illness bitches, detecting early kidney damage, improving the prognosis and survival of the animal.

TL;DR: In this paper, a pesquisas em Roraima sobre o uso of fosforo and potassio in arroz irrigado (Oryza sativa L).
