TL;DR: Under ordinary rearing conditions within a particular ethnoenvironmental medium, it would appear that approachability is a relatively stable property of cattle breeds.
Abstract: Bovine cattle from various parts of the world were studied in a physically and culturally homogeneous environment. The animals' approachability by a human in open pastures was associated with breed differences. Dairy breeds were more approachable than beef breeds, while a comparison between European (Bos taurus) and humpbacked (B. indicus) stock yielded equivocal results. Raising dairy breeds for meat and raising beef breeds as milch cows had little overall effect on their approachability. Genetic affiliation was a much more powerful variable than treatment. Under ordinary rearing conditions within a particular ethnoenvironmental medium, it would appear that approachability is a relatively stable property of cattle breeds.

TL;DR: Genetic heritability in this triracial population is low, and cultural inheritance is much smaller, and there is no evidence of maternal effects or major loci.
Abstract: Genetic heritability in this triracial population is 0.41 for systolic pressure in children, 0.14 for systolic pressure in adults, and 0.34 for diastolic pressure in both generations. Cultural inheritance is much smaller, and there is no evidence of maternal effects or major loci.

Abstract: The authors describe and discuss experiments carried out withChlorella sp. in which the effect of humic acid on its growth was studied. Also the coupled effect of humic acid and tolerance to cupric ions was demonstrated. Some ecological implication are discussed.

TL;DR: A multiple component strategy was investigated for aiding staff responsible for supervising production of lower functioning retarded clients on contract tasks in an institution-based sheltered workshop and both the clients and staff preferred working under experimental conditions rather than under baseline conditions which approximated those found in "typical" sheltered workshops.
Abstract: A multiple component strategy was investigated for aiding staff responsible for supervising production of lower functioning retarded clients on contract tasks in an institution-based sheltered workshop. The strategy was assessed in a combined multi-element, multiple baseline across groups design with a reversal component. Production performance increased during the production supervisory strategy with all 16 clients, with the range of increase varying from a few percentage points to 150% of baseline production. Both the clients and staff (responsible for conducting the research) preferred working under experimental conditions rather than under baseline conditions which approximated those found in "typical" sheltered workshops.

TL;DR: In this paper, the distribution of primary production and chlorophyll-a in surface waters at the regions between Cabo Frio (Lat. 28o 43'S - Long 47o 52'W) is presented.
Abstract: The distribution of primary production (mgC/m3) and chlorophyll-a (mg/m3) in surface waters at the regions between Cabo Frio (Lat. 22o 31'S - Long. 41o 52'W) and Santa Marta Grande Cape (Lat. 28o 43'S - Long 47o 52'W) is presented. The results were obtained during four oceanographic cruises: May/76, Sept-Oct/76, Jan-Feb/77 and Jan/78 by R/V "Prof. W. Besnard". The highest values for chlorophyll-a and primary production were observed during summer. In general, in all the experiments, coastal waters showed a greater primary production potential. The reasons for the eutrophication of coastal waters are discussed.

TL;DR: In this paper, the electrochemical behavior of the system Eu 3+ /Eu 2+ in aqueous ethylene glycol solutions was studied by current reversal chronopotentiometry at a mercury pool electrode in the temperature range 20.0-50.0°C, with 1 M NaClO 4 as supporting electrolyte.

TL;DR: In this paper, the influence of cubic and quartic crystalline anharmonicity on the classical and quantum thermal behavior of the specific heat, Debye temperature, crystalline expansion, and phonon spectrum was investigated.
Abstract: We study, within the framework of the variational method in statistical mechanics, the influence of the cubic and quartic crystalline anharmonicity on the classical and quantum thermal behavior of the specific heat, Debye temperature $\ensuremath{\Theta}$, Debye-Waller factor $W$, crystalline expansion, and phonon spectrum. The systems we mainly focalize are the single oscillator, the monoatomic linear chain, and the simple cubic crystal. The trial Hamiltonian is a harmonic one, therefore the various anharmonic influences are mainly absorbed into the renormalization of $\ensuremath{\Theta}(T)$. Several differences between the classical and quantum results are exhibited. Satisfactory qualitative agreement with experience was obtained in the low-temperature regime, in particular on what concerns the existence of a minimum in $\ensuremath{\Theta}(T)$ which has been observed in Cu, Al, Ag, Au, and Pb. For the intermediate-temperature regime the customary linear behavior of $W(T)$ [hence $\ensuremath{\Theta}(T)$ almost constant] is reobtained. Finally, in the high-temperature regime, the present treatment leads to a $\sqrt{T}$ dependence for the $W$ factor, which implies the wrong curvature with respect to experimental data. A possible explanation of this disagreement might be related to the melting phenomenon, which is not covered by the present theory.
