TL;DR: It is concluded that carbon monoxide is produced at a rate of 5x1015 grams per year, a value some 25 times greater than the rate ofcarbon monoxide production from combustion, and hydroxyl radicals are shown to account for both the production of this large amount of carbonmonoxide by methane oxidation and for its removal by carbon mon dioxide oxidation.
Abstract: Consideration of the steady-state equations for stable carbon monoxide and for radioactive carbon monoxide in the troposphere leads to the conclusion that carbon monoxide is produced at a rate of 5x10(15) grams per year, a value some 25 times greater than the rate of carbon monoxide production from combustion. The concomitant residence time for carbon monoxide is 0.1 year, in agreement with a previous estimate of Weinstock. Hydroxyl radicals are shown to account for both the production of this large amount of carbon monoxide by methane oxidation and for its removal by carbon monoxide oxidation. The average concentration of hydroxyl radicals in the troposphere required to achieve this effect is 2.3x10(6) molecules per cubic centimeter, with a daytime concentration of twice that. Levy and McConnell, McElroy, and Wofsy have deduced concentrations of hydroxyl radicals in the troposphere of the same magnitude from purely photochemical considerations, in support of this model.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated five alternative approaches on a turbocharged Dl gasoline engine: conventional stoichiometric operation, with reduced compression ratio (CR), EGR Boost with cooled EGR dilution rather than excess air to control octane requirement, Miller cycle concept, where valve-timing strategies are employed to reduce the effective compression ratio at high load, and dual injection strategies to control the octane requirements.
Abstract: Reducing engine swept volume (so-called 'downsizing') offers the potential to meet future tighter CAFE standards and reduced CO 2 vehicle emissions in Europe. In downsizing the gasoline engine, a key challenge is controlling octane requirement without sacrificing fuel economy. The authors have investigated five alternative approaches on a turbocharged Dl gasoline engine: ○ Conventional stoichiometric operation, with reduced compression ratio (CR) ○ Lean Boost Dl (LBDI) with lean operation at full-load to control octane requirement while maintaining a high CR ○ EGR Boost with cooled EGR dilution rather than excess air to control octane requirement ○ Miller cycle concept, where valve-timing strategies are employed to reduce the effective compression ratio at high load ○ Dual injection strategies to control octane requirement Each approach has been investigated using engine performance and vehicle simulation codes. Experimental investigations have been carried out using a 1.125L 13 multi-cylinder engine. The most promising concept, LBDI, has been further developed using the multi-cylinder engine installed in a Ford Focus C-class vehicle.

TL;DR: This data indicates that among 117 patients with pulmonary embolism and no prior cardiac or pulmonary disease who participated in the PIOPED study, combinations of clinical characteristics were identified that were present in nearly all in whom the diagnosis of PE was made.
Abstract: Among 117 patients with pulmonary embolism (PE) and no prior cardiac or pulmonary disease who participated in the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute Prospective Investigation of Pulmonary Embolism Diagnosis (PIOPED) study, combinations of clinical characteristics were identified that were present in nearly all in whom the diagnosis of PE was made. 1 We now assess these as well as additional combinations of characteristics in the entire population of patients with acute PE who participated in PIOPED, irrespective of the presence of prior cardiopulmonary disease.

TL;DR: In this article, a simple method to prepare dual-alcohol−gasoline blends with Reid vapor pressure (RVP) indistinguishable from that of the base gasoline was demonstrated. But the results were compared to literature data.
Abstract: Reid vapor pressures (RVPs) were determined for alcohol−gasoline blends containing 5−85% by volume of methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol, 2-propanol, 1-butanol, 2-butanol, i-butanol (2-methyl-1-propanol), and t-butanol (2-methyl-2-propanol). The results are compared to literature data. Most alcohols form near-azeotropic mixtures with hydrocarbons in gasoline that affect the vapor pressure of the blend in a non-ideal manner. In addition, vapor pressures of dual-alcohol blends with gasoline containing a range of ethanol and 1-butanol volume percentages were determined. We demonstrate a simple method to prepare dual-alcohol−gasoline blends with RVPs indistinguishable from that of the base gasoline. It may be advantageous to use alcohols in addition to ethanol in the form of dual- or multi-alcohol blends as these become available in larger scale in the future.

TL;DR: A keyless entry system for an automotive vehicle permits a plurality of operations to be achieved from outside the vehicle by one who is knowledgeable of predetermined digital codes as mentioned in this paper, such as unlocking the doors of the vehicle, opening the rear deck lid, opening a roof window, lowering the windows or programming the system with a user preferred digital access code.
Abstract: A keyless entry system for an automotive vehicle permits a plurality of operations to be achieved from outside the vehicle by one who is knowledgeable of predetermined digital codes. Functions such as unlocking the doors of the vehicle, opening the rear deck lid, opening a roof window, lowering the windows or programming the system with a user preferred digital access code are all performed by proper sequential operation of a digital keyboard mounted on the outside of the vehicle.
