TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe a communication system having an echo canceller, which includes an adaptive filter used to provide an estimate of reflected echo which is removed from the send signal, and a nonlinear processor used to further reduce any residual echo and to preserve background noise.
Abstract: A communication system having an echo canceller is disclosed. One embodiment of the echo canceller includes an adaptive filter used to provide an estimate of reflected echo which is removed from the send signal. The echo canceller may also include a near-end talker signal detector which may be used to prevent the adaptive filter from adapting when a near-end talker signal is present. The echo canceller may also include a nonlinear processor used to further reduce any residual echo and to preserve background noise. The echo canceller may also include a monitor and control unit which may be used to monitor the filter coefficients and gain of the adaptive filter to maintain stability of the echo canceller, estimate pure delay, detect a tone, and inject a training signal. The echo canceller may also include a nonadaptive filter used to reduce the length of the adaptive filter.

TL;DR: A surface mount component placement arrangement includes a circuit supporting substrate (202) having a first surface (308), and disposed thereon are a first pad array (502) and a first at least one aligning pad (506).
Abstract: A surface mount component placement arrangement includes a circuit supporting substrate (202) having a first surface (308), and disposed thereon are a first pad array (502) and a first at least one aligning pad (506). A component (802) has a second surface (801), the second surface (801) substantially opposing the first surface (308), and disposed on the second surface (801) are second pad array (406) and a second at least one aligning pad (508). The first and second pad arrays (406, 502) at least partially overlap with each other. The aligning pads (506, 508) at least partially overlap with each other relative to a second tolerance of the placement operation. The partially overlapping pair of pads (506, 508) are oriented relative to each other such that when solder therebetween is liquid the surface tension of the solder can move the component (802) relative to the circuit supporting substrate.

TL;DR: In this paper, the application of ion irradiation to induce nanocrystalization in a Cu50Zr45Ti5 (CZT) alloy was reported, where hardness enhancement was observed near the projected range of the He ions, coinciding with the formation of nanocrystals.
Abstract: Application of metallic glasses as structural materials has been limited by their poor ductility. To overcome brittle failure, nanocrystals are intentionally introduced to stabilize the glasses. In this study, we report on the application of ion irradiation to induce nanocrystalization in a Cu50Zr45Ti5 (CZT) alloy. Transmission electron microcopy, microindentation and nanoindentation have been used to characterize the CZT alloy irradiated with 140 keV He ions at room temperature. Hardness enhancement was observed near the projected range of the He ions, coinciding with the formation of nanocrystals. Such microstructural changes, however, were not observed in the near surface region, where the electronic stopping process is dominant.

TL;DR: In this article, the deblock filtering of video blocks of an enhanced layer of scalable video information is disclosed, which includes selecting an adjacent pair of video block, determining whether boundary strength of the video blocks is a first value, evaluating first conditions using component values of a first component line if the boundary strength is not the first value.
Abstract: A method of simplifying deblock filtering of video blocks of an enhanced layer of scalable video information is disclosed which includes selecting an adjacent pair of video blocks, determining whether boundary strength of the video blocks is a first value, evaluating first conditions using component values of a first component line if the boundary strength is not the first value, and bypassing deblock filtering between the video blocks if the boundary strength is the first value or if any of the first conditions is false. The method may include bypassing evaluating conditions and deblock filtering associated with the maximum boundary strength. The method may include bypassing evaluating second conditions and bypassing corresponding deblock filtering if the intermediate edge is a horizontal edge. The method may include bypassing less efficient memory reads associated with component values used for evaluating the second conditions.
