TL;DR: It is found that Taipei residents have the highest migraine prevalence of all Chinese populations studied, although it is still in the low range of prevalence compared with the results from Western countries.
Abstract: We conducted the first population-based migraine survey in Taipei, Taiwan, using a validated questionnaire administered by interviewers during the period from August 1997 to June 1998. Our target population comprised all individuals (age > or = 15 years) in 1400 randomly selected households. Migraine diagnoses were made according to the classification criteria of migraine without aura proposed by the International Headache Society, 1988, except that attacks with a duration of between 2 h and 4 h were also included. Of the 4434 eligible subjects in the 1211 respondent households, 3377 (76%) completed the questionnaire. After adjustment for age and sex distribution according to the population structure, the prevalence of migraine was 9.1% (F/M 14.4%/4.5%). Fifty-four percent of the subjects with migraine had consulted a physician about their headaches in the past year. However, only 18% of them reported that their migraine had been diagnosed by physicians. This study found that Taipei residents have the highest migraine prevalence of all Chinese populations studied, although it is still in the low range of prevalence compared with the results from Western countries.

TL;DR: To deal with time delay in the interconnection and dead-zone nonlinearity in the input, a new decentralized variable structure control (DVSC) law is proposed for a class of uncertain large-scale system (LSS) in this paper.

TL;DR: This study evaluated the changes of GERD symptoms and erosive esophagitis in severely obese patients who underwent laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.
Abstract: Although laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) is an effective treatment for morbid obesity, the effects of LSG on gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) are controversial This study evaluated the changes of GERD symptoms and erosive esophagitis (EE) in severely obese patients who underwent LSG Forty-seven severely obese women and 19 severely obese men (mean age of 372 ± 127 years) who underwent LSG between August 2007 and November 2009 were enrolled All patients completed the Reflux Disease Questionnaire and underwent esophagogastroduodenoscopy preoperatively and at least 1 year after LSG The median follow-up period was 12 months (range, 12–21) After surgery, significant decreases were reported in mean body mass index (363 ± 41 vs 258 ± 29 kg/m2), mean waist circumference (1095 ± 128 vs 857 ± 95 cm), and prevalence of metabolic syndrome (545 vs 76 %; P < 0001 for both) Conversely, a significant increase was observed in the prevalence of GERD symptoms (121 vs 47 %) and EE (167 vs 667 %) after LSG (P < 0001 for both) The prevalence of hiatal hernias also increased significantly (61 vs 273 %; P < 0001) after LSG, and it was significantly higher in patients with than those without EE after LSG (91 vs 364 %, respectively; P = 002) Although LSG can achieve significant weight loss and improvement of comorbidities in severely obese patients, the prevalence and severity of GERD symptoms and EE increase after the operation The occurrence of EE after LSG is related to the presence of a hiatal hernia after the operation

TL;DR: In this paper, seven N-heterocyclic carbene complexes of silver(I) have been synthesized, five of which were structurally characterized, and all of which exhibit low energy emission bands at λmax ∼ 540 nm.
Abstract: Seven N-heterocyclic carbene complexes of silver(I) have been synthesized, five of which were structurally characterized. Polymeric AgI-carbene complexes with a diverse range of structures are formed through extended AgI–AgI interactions, AgI-bridging halides, AgI-bridging dicarbenes, and ring π–π interactions. Compounds having extended AgI–AgI-centered interactions exhibit low energy emission bands at λmax
≈ 540 nm. These bands are assigned to metal-centered transitions involving extended AgI–AgI interactions.
