TL;DR: Data from this study demonstrate that an upregulation of AQP4 occurs at the site of traumatic brain injury and that a downregulation of this molecule occurs adjacent to the sites of injury.
Abstract: Object. Aquaporin-4 (AQP4) plays a significant role in the regulation of brain water homeostasis. In this study the authors investigated the regulation of AQP4 following a focal cortical contusion injury in rats. Methods. Thirty-three adult male Wistar rats received a focal cortical contusion of the parietal cortex. An additional nine rats underwent a craniectomy, but no trauma was inflicted (sham injury). Animals were killed 1, 4, and 24 hours later. The rat brains were examined for water content by comparing the wet and dry weights of each hemisphere. Aquaporin-4 messenger (m)RNA was measured by reverse transcription—polymerase chain reaction. A ratio of AQP4 mRNA expression in the lesioned hemisphere compared with that in the contralateral control hemisphere was calculated for each animal at the injury site (parietal cortex) and at sites adjacent to (occipital cortex) and distant from the injury (frontal pole cortex). Brain edema was significantly increased at the injury site. The expression of AQP4 mR...

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used cognitive behavior theory to investigate the drivers of green consumption behavior and the missing link in the concern-behavior gap, and validated the proposed conceptual model using structural equation modeling.
Abstract: Green consumption involves comprehensive concerns that address the broad scope of sustainability, ecosystem balance, profit-generation and people. Identifying the factors that influence consumers' purchase behavior enables manufacturers to understand consumers' decision-making processes and can help them develop more environmentally beneficial products. However, scholars have recently found that a gap exists between environmental concern and consumers' actual purchase behavior. The purpose of this paper is to use cognitive behavior theory to investigate the drivers of green consumption behavior and the missing link in the concern–behavior gap. After collecting 375 valid questionnaires, this study validated the proposed conceptual model using structural equation modeling. The revised model indicates that environmental involvement, informational utility, green advertising skepticism and green trust are antecedent variables of consumer attitudes toward green products. Additionally, this study also provides a possible explanation of and remedies for the concern–behavior gap. Copyright © 2017 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd and ERP Environment

TL;DR: From 6 to 36 mo after AT, recurrence of pediatric OSA was significantly associated with enuresis, age (for the 24- to 36-mo period), postsurgery AHI6 (severity), and the rate of change in BMI and body weight.
Abstract: OBJECTIVE To evaluate the efficacy of adenotonsillectomy (AT) in the treatment of children with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in a 3-y prospective, longitudinal study with analysis of risk factors of recurrence of OSA. STUDY DESIGN An investigation of children (6 to 12 y old) with OSA documented at entry and followed posttreatment at 6, 12, 24, and 36 mo with examination, questionnaires, and polysomnography. Multivariate generalized linear modeling and hierarchical linear models analysis were used to determine contributors to suboptimal long-term resolution of OSA, and Generalized Linear Models were used for analysis of risk factors of recurrence. RESULTS Of the 135 children, 88 terminated the study at 36 months post-AT. These 88 children (boys = 72, mean age = 8.9 ± 2.7 yersus boys 8.9 ± 2.04 y, girls: 8.8 ± 2.07 y; body mass index [BMI] = 19.5 ± 4.6 kg/m(2)) had a preoperative mean apnea-hypopnea index (AHI0) of 13.54 ± 7.23 and a mean postoperative AHI at 6 mo (AHI6) of 3.47 ± 8.41 events/h (with AHI6 > 1 = 53.4% of 88 children). A progressive increase in AHI was noted with a mean AHI36 = 6.48 ± 5.57 events/h and AHI36 > 1 = 68% of the studied group. Change in AHI was associated with changes in the OSA-18 questionnaire. The residual pediatric OSA after AT was significantly associated with BMI, AHI, enuresis, and allergic rhinitis before surgery. From 6 to 36 mo after AT, recurrence of pediatric OSA was significantly associated with enuresis, age (for the 24- to 36-mo period), postsurgery AHI6 (severity), and the rate of change in BMI and body weight. CONCLUSIONS Adenotonsillectomy leads to significant improvement in apnea-hypopnea index, though generally with incomplete resolution, but a worsening over time was observed in 68% of our cases.

TL;DR: Wang et al. as mentioned in this paper examined the generalizability of a generic work stress model to Chinese societies and examined the sub-cultural differences in the work stress processes, by drawing contrast of the PRC and Taiwan.
Abstract: Towards the end of the twentieth century, the world has witnessed an amazing economic take‐off in the East Asia, especially within the territory of so‐called “Greater China”, encompassing the PRC and Taiwan Against this economic and cultural background, this study surveyed 258 and 189 employees respectively in Taiwan, and the PRC (Shanghai), to examine generalizability of a generic work‐stress model to the Chinese societies It further examined the sub‐cultural differences in the work‐stress processes, by drawing contrast of the PRC and Taiwan In addition, roles of emic constructs of Chinese primary and secondary control beliefs were also examined Results showed that the generic work‐stress model could be reasonably applied to Chinese urban work contexts in the PRC and Taiwan Work stress related as expected to strain effects At a more refined sub‐cultural level, it was found that different sources of work stress became salient contributors to strain outcomes in the PRC and Taiwan These differences reflect the diverse political, social, and economic characteristics of the two Chinese societies More importantly, emic constructs of Chinese control beliefs were found to have rather consistent direct effects on strain outcomes However, indirect (moderating) effects of control beliefs were not strong and inconsistent
