Abstract: Summary. This paper reports on a study of approaches to learning of undergraduate medical students in the University of Gadjah Mada, Indonesia. The Lancaster Approaches to Studying Inventory was translated into Indonesian and the translated form pilot tested. The instrument was then completed by 90 students, 30 each in first, second and fifth year in the Faculty of Medicine. It was found that Indonesian students generally gave higher rates than previous studies have reported. Factor analysis of their responses showed strong resemblances to other groups in the factors of meaning and reproducing orientation. Differences found in Indonesian students' responses were in strategic and non-academic orientations. There were differences between the response patterns of first-, third- and fifth-year students. It is concluded that the instrument is valid for use in Indonesia.

Our broad research question is: Can the health of mothers and babies in Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia be improved by increasing the local capacity for the synthesis of research, implementation of effective interventions, and identification of gaps in knowledge needing further research?

Abstract: This research developed an application that could tracks and locates human's presence and position in indoor environment using multiple depth-cameras. Kinect as the most affordable device that equipped with depth-camera was used in this work. The application obtains stream data from Kinect and analyzes presence of human using skeletal tracking library on Kinect for Windows SDK v1. The final application also visualizes human location on 3D environment using Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) 4.0. In order to visualize 3D object correctly, the application also took into account the coverage that may intersect when two Kinects were placed in adjacent position so that the final human location is combined. In the end, application was tested in 3 different scenarios and it's found that the average error in determining human location was 0.13589 meters.

Abstract: Two protease inhibitors of 67 and 18 kDa, respectively, were purified from glassfish, Liparis tanakai, eggs by affinity chromatography. The smaller protein was purified with a yield and purity of 0.25% and 49.69-fold, respectively, and was characterized for further study. The glassfish egg protease inhibitor exhibited stability between 50 and 65 °C in an alkaline environment (pH 8). It was shown to be a noncompetitive inhibitor against papain, with an inhibitor constant (Ki) of 4.44 nM. Potent glassfish protease inhibitor with N-Val-Gly Ser-Met-Thr-Gly-Gly-Phe-Thr-Asp-C amino acid residues was synthesized and its inhibitory activity was compared. Moreover, the 18-kDa protein inhibited cathepsin, a cysteine protease, more effectively than did egg white protease inhibitor, whereas the reverse was true for papain. Glassfish egg protease inhibitor is classified as a member of the family I cystatins. Keywords: Glassfish egg; protease inhibitor; stability; cysteine protease; inhibitor constant
