TL;DR: Although there has recently been improvement in terms of definitive diagnosis and HSCT in JMML patients, the overall results are not satisfactory and it is necessary to put more effort into this issue in Turkey.
Abstract: OBJECTIVE This study aimed to define the status of juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia (JMML) patients in Turkey in terms of time of diagnosis, clinical characteristics, mutational studies, clinical course, and treatment strategies. MATERIALS AND METHODS Data including clinical and laboratory characteristics and treatment strategies of JMML patients were collected retrospectively from pediatric hematology-oncology centers in Turkey. RESULTS Sixty-five children with JMML diagnosed between 2002 and 2016 in 18 institutions throughout Turkey were enrolled in the study. The median age at diagnosis was 17 months (min-max: 2-117 months). Splenomegaly was present in 92% of patients at the time of diagnosis. The median white blood cell, monocyte, and platelet counts were 32.9x109/L, 5.4x109/L, and 58.3x109/L, respectively. Monosomy 7 was present in 18% of patients. JMML mutational analysis was performed in 32 of 65 patients (49%) and PTPN11 was the most common mutation. Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) could only be performed in 28 patients (44%), the majority being after the year 2012. The most frequent reason for not performing HSCT was the inability to find a suitable donor. The median time from diagnosis to HSCT was 9 months (min-max: 2-63 months). The 5-year cumulative survival rate was 33% and median estimated survival time was 30±17.4 months (95% CI: 0-64.1) for all patients. Survival time was significantly better in the HSCT group (log-rank p=0.019). Older age at diagnosis (>2 years), platelet count of less than 40x109/L, and PTPN11 mutation were the factors significantly associated with shorter survival time. CONCLUSION Although there has recently been improvement in terms of definitive diagnosis and HSCT in JMML patients, the overall results are not satisfactory and it is necessary to put more effort into this issue in Turkey.

TL;DR: In this paper, the impacts of science teaching enriched with technological applications on the science course achievement levels of 7th grade students were investigated. And they found that the achievement level of the experiment group with the technology enriched science teaching applications increased significantly and was higher at a meaningful level than the achievement of the control group students.
Abstract: This study aims to research the impacts of science teaching enriched with technological applications on the science course achievement levels of 7 th grade students. 13 weeks long research was carried out with 7 th grade students studying at a state secondary school in Turkey in 2016. In the study, quasi-experimental method, experimental design with the pretest-posttest control group was used. There were 83 students (control=42, experiment=41) in the study group. “Science Achievement Test” developed by the researchers was used as data collection tool. There are 28 multiple-choice, four-choice items in the achievement test covering subjects taught, and the KR 20 reliability coefficient is 0.78. “Science Achievement Test” was used as the pretest, posttest, and follow-up test. Teaching was carried out by the same science teacher in the science class in both the control and experiment groups. In the control group, student-centered learning approach suitable to the 2013 Science Course Curriculum was given to the students, and no experimental procedure was applied. In the experiment group, 2013 Science Course Curriculum was followed, and teaching was carried out with technology enriched science teaching applications. At the end of the research, it was found that the achievement levels of the experiment group with the technology enriched science teaching applications increased significantly and was higher at a meaningful level than the achievement of the control group students. According to this findings, it can be suggested that technology enriched teaching should also be used in science teaching to address individual differences by enriching teaching.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors showed that the reentrant transition in poly(N-isopropylmethacrylamide-co-itaconic acid) [poly(NIPMA-co)-IA] gels requires moderate temperature, so that the hydrophobic interactions between chains dominate the swelling process.
Abstract: Thermo- and pH-sensitive gels composed of N-isopropylmethacrylamide (NIPMA) and itaconic acid (IA) were prepared by free-radical crosslinking copolymerization in poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) solution at 22°C and in water at −22°C and at 22°C, which were called as the macroporous gel (MGel), the cryogel (CGel), and the conventional gel (NGel), respectively. The gels were characterized by the equilibrium swelling, interior morphology, and deswelling kinetics. With increasing temperature in water, the gels exhibit reentrant conformational phase transition. During this transition, the gels first deswell in the range of temperature between 5 and 29°C, then drastically reswell if temperature is monotonically increased. The reswelling of the collapsed gels occurs above 45°C. It was shown that the reentrant transition in poly(N-isopropylmethacrylamide-co-itaconic acid) [poly(NIPMA-co-IA)] gels requires moderate temperature, so that the hydrophobic interactions between chains dominate the swelling process. Scanning electron micrographs revealed that the interior network structure of MGel is more porous compared with those of CGel and NGel. This more porous structure provided numerous water channels for water diffusion out of the matrix and, therefore, an improved response rate to the external temperature and pH changes during the deswelling process. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. TL;DR: Evaluated gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) OPG levels in menopausal and premenopausal patients with or without periodontitis revealed that GCF OPG Levels were lower inperiodontitis patients and phase I therapy resulted with increased GCFOPG levels, however those alterations were statistically insignificant.
