Abstract: The inflammaging concept was introduced in 2000 by Prof. Franceschi. This was an evolutionary or rather a revolutionary conceptualization of the immune changes in response to a lifelong stress. This conceptualization permitted to consider the lifelong proinflammatory process as an adaptation which could eventually lead to either beneficial or detrimental consequences. This dichotomy is influenced by both the genetics and the environment. Depending on which way prevails in an individual, the outcome may be healthy longevity or pathological aging burdened with aging-related diseases. The concept of inflammaging has also revealed the complex, systemic nature of aging. Thus, this conceptualization opens the way to consider age-related processes in their complexity, meaning that not only the process but also all counter-processes should be considered. It has also opened the way to add new concepts to the original one, leading to better understanding of the nature of inflammaging and of aging itself. Finally, it showed the way towards potential multimodal interventions involving a holistic approach to optimize the aging process towards a healthy longevity.

Abstract: Introduction: In the past decade human adipose tissue has been identified as a source of multipotent stem cells. Adipose tissue derived stem cells (ASCs) are characterised by immunosuppressive properties and low immunogenicity. Therefore, they can be used in regenerative medicine, as well as applied to induce graft tolerance or prevent autoimmunity. ASCs can be easily harvested with low morbidity, which is their main advantage over mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) derived from other sources. Areas covered: The review focuses on reported clinical applications of ASCs and discusses technical approaches of their isolation and processing. The differences in phenotype and differentiation preferences between ASCs and other MSCs that may affect the choice of a particular cell type for the future therapy are also described. Abstract: People with Huntington's disease (HD) may show reduced awareness of physical and mental changes in themselves. This article reviews the evidence for loss of awareness (anosognosia) in an attempt to elucidate its characteristics and possible underlying mechanisms. It is shown that defective awareness occurs across domains. People with HD may under-report the presence or severity of involuntary movements, under-estimate cognitive impairment and deny behavioural change. Nevertheless, awareness is not all or none. Moreover, it may be affected differentially for different symptom domains and emerge at different stages of disease, raising the possibility of distinct contributory mechanisms. Findings of an inverse relationship between insight and severity of disease suggest that cognitive impairment, in particular executive dysfunction, may be an important contributory factor. Evidence has accrued to support this argument. However, cognitive impairment cannot fully account for patients' lack of awareness of involuntary movements. Findings that patients accurately report consequences but not the experience of involuntary movements, and better acknowledge their presence when watching videotapes of themselves suggests that physiological factors play an important role. The putative role of denial as a coping mechanism is discussed. Recognition by clinicians of deficient self-awareness is crucial because of its implications for diagnosis and optimal clinical management of HD.

Abstract: Phenolic acids present in mistletoe plants collected from various hosts were analysed with the use of HPLC. The following numbers of compounds were found in the mistletoe plant material gathered from respective hosts: Sorbus aucuparia- 12 compounds; Acer plantanoides--14 compounds: Malus domestica, Pyrus communis and Populus nigra--13 compounds each; Quercus robur--15 compounds. Altogether 21 phenolic acids were chromatographically identified in the tested material. The compounds were either free or combined as esters or glycosides. Comparative chromatography revealed qualitative differences in the investigated compounds between the various plant materials. For example o-coumaric acid was only found in mistletoe hosted by Quercus robur. Digallic acid was only found in the plant material hosted by Acer plantanoides. Qualitative and quantitative composition of mistletoes hosted by Malus domestica and Pyrus communis showed considerable similarities as far as phenolic acids were concerned. Moreover. vanillic acid. absent in all other batches of plant material, seemed to be characteristic of the above mistletoes. Quantitative HPLC analysis demonstrated a considerable content of salicylic acid (39.55 mg%) in mistletoe hosted by Sorbus aucuparia. Apart from the above material, this compound was only present in small quantities in plants hosted by Populus nigra (15.63 mg%) and Quercus robur (2.63 mg%).
