TL;DR: In this article, the status of polymer dielectric film development and its feasibility for capacitor applications was highlighted. And the PEI film was found to be the preferred choice for high-temperature film capacitor development due to its thermal stability, dielectrics properties, and scalability.
Abstract: Film capacitor technology has been under development for over half a century to meet various applications such as direct-current link capacitors for transportation, converters/inverters for power electronics, controls for deep well drilling of oil and gas, direct energy weapons for military use, and high-frequency coupling circuitry. The biaxially oriented polypropylene film capacitor remains the state-of-the-art technology; however, it is not able to meet increasing demand for high-temperature (>125°C) applications. A number of dielectric materials capable of operating at high temperatures (>140°C) have attracted investigation, and their modifications are being pursued to achieve higher volumetric efficiency as well. This paper highlights the status of polymer dielectric film development and its feasibility for capacitor applications. High-temperature polymers such as polyetherimide (PEI), polyimide, and polyetheretherketone were the focus of our studies. PEI film was found to be the preferred choice for high-temperature film capacitor development due to its thermal stability, dielectric properties, and scalability.

20 Dec 2000TL;DR: In this paper, a method and apparatus for injecting a fluid into a plasma stream with a uniform distribution and with reduced likelihood of clogging over prolonged use is provided, which can be integrated into or interchangeable within an injector system that can be designed for operation within a plasma deposition apparatus.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for injecting a fluid into a plasma stream with a uniform distribution and with reduced likelihood of clogging over prolonged use is provided. An injector includes a first channel portion for restricting a flow of the fluid and having a shape such that inner walls of the first channel portion are parallel to a first axis. The injector also includes a second channel portion in fluid communication with the first channel portion. The second channel portion includes a recessed portion such that inner walls of the second channel portion diverge from the first axis at a predetermined angle. The second channel portion reduces a buildup of a clogging layer on the inner walls of the second channel portion over a period of use. In addition, the injector can further include a tip portion that protrudes into the plasma. The injector can be integrated into or interchangeable within an injector system that can be designed for operation within a plasma deposition apparatus.

TL;DR: A class of binary recurrent codes for correcting independent errors is given which has guaranteed error-limiting properties and the results of a computer simulation indicate that these codes perform better in some situations than other codes using threshold decoding.
Abstract: A class of binary recurrent codes for correcting independent errors is given which has guaranteed error-limiting properties. These codes can be simply decoded using threshold decoding, and will recover from any decoding error caused by either an uncorrectable transmission error or a temporary malfunction of the encoder or decoder. A number of such codes are given along with a synthesis procedure. The results of a computer simulation are given which indicate that these codes perform better in some situations than other codes using threshold decoding.

TL;DR: In this paper, a flyback converter used as a battery charger is analyzed and applied to optimize the design of the snubber and clamp arrangement in a power transistor switching circuit.
Abstract: In power transistor switching circuits, shunt snubbers (dv/dt limiting capacitors) are often used to reduce the turn-off switching loss or prevent reverse-biased second breakdown. Similarly, series snubbers (di/dt limiting inductors) are used to reduce the turn-on switching loss or prevent forward-biased second breakdown. In both cases energy is stored in the reactive element of the snubber and is dissipated during its discharge. If the circuit includes a transformer, a voltage clamp across the transistor may be needed to absorb the energy trapped in the leakage inductance. The action of these typical snubber and clamp arrangements is analyzed and applied to optimize the design of a flyback converter used as a battery charger.
