TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discuss cogent mathematical reasons for why a decomposition of the reducible quantities used in a unified field theory does not occur, and show that this principle is satisfactory from a forrmal point of view and has been verified empirically without exception.
Abstract: In criticizing certain proposed unified field theories Pauli remarked that all these theories are exposed to the objection that they are in disagreement with the principle that only irreducible quantities should be used in field theories. This principle is indeed satisfactory from a forrmal point of view and has been verified empirically without exception in physics. Therefore, it is believed that cogent mathematical reasons have to be given why a decomposition of the reducible quantities used in the theory does not occur. These are discussed. (JFP)
