TL;DR: In this article, the authors compared the conventional air-filled tire with a nonpneumatic tire to improve the grip in the Arctic conditions, and the results proved the nonpuneumatic tires have a more concentrated pressure profile with higher pressure values.
Abstract: The harsh climate of the Arctic has always posed significant challenges to car drivers. The severe loss in traction due to snow and icing on the roads has led to an increased risk of collisions. The chapter compares the conventional air-filled tire with a nonpneumatic tire to improve the grip in the Arctic conditions. The grip obtained for tires is determined by the weight of the car and the friction between the tire and the road. The friction coefficient, used to determine friction, is a function of the contact pressure. This chapter discusses research work to obtain a concentrated pressure profile for the airless tire, compared to a conventional tire. A finite element analysis using ANSYS® Workbench is performed on two distinct models. The different pressure profiles of the models are analyzed, and the results proved the nonpneumatic tires have a more concentrated pressure profile with higher-pressure values.

TL;DR: In this paper, a novel analytical approach for estimating the shear rate over the membrane surface and away from the surface as a result of the membrane oscillation has been presented, which was developed and modified according to the system using the Stokes boundary layer equation.
Abstract: A novel analytical approach for estimating the shear rate over the membrane surface and away from the membrane surface as a result of the membrane oscillation has been presented. The model was developed and modified according to our system using the Stokes boundary layer equation. Generation of the shear over the membrane surface is an important phenomenon that not only mitigates the fouling but also enhances the separation efficiency. It is investigated that membrane oscillating frequency, amplitude and viscosity of the souring fluid are important parameters that influence the intensity of the shear on the membrane surface and away from the surface. The model presented was tested with various set of frequencies, amplitudes and viscosities. While, keeping the amplitude constant and changing the frequencies, ahigherintensity of shear over the membrane surface was noticed. On the other hand, keeping the frequency constant and changing the amplitude, a lower shear on the membrane surface was observed. Similarly, as expected, a lower shear over the membrane surface was noticed when the viscosity of the surrounding fluid was increased. The model was supported with the experimental results where separation of oil drops from produced water was the focus of the experiments conducted. It was clear from the experimental results that membrane oscillation enhanced the separation efficiency of the membrane used and therefore, concentration of oil drops in the permeate decreased. Further, the application of the shear was greatly influenced by the pore blocking; higher the shear rate; lower was the pore blocking and vice versa.

TL;DR: In this article, a study of proper affine vector fields in plane symmetric static space-times by using the rank of the Rieman matrix and holonomy was performed, and it was shown that the special class of the above space times admit proper vector fields.

TL;DR: The objective of this work is to give a compact view of the complete program code information at a single glance and to provide the user with an interactive environment to explore details of a given program.
Abstract: Object-oriented languages are widely used in software development to help the developer in using dynamic data structures which evolve during program execution. However, the task of program comprehension and performance analysis necessitates the understanding of data structures used in a program. Particularly, in understanding which application programming interface (API) objects are used during runtime of a program. The objective of this work is to give a compact view of the complete program code information at a single glance and to provide the user with an interactive environment to explore details of a given program. This work presents a novel interactive visualization tool for collection framework usage, in a Java program, based on hierarchical treemap. A given program is instrumented during execution time and data recorded into a log file. The log file is then converted to extensible markup language (XML)-based tree format which proceeds to the visualization component. The visualization provides a global view to the usage of collection API objects at different locations during program execution. We conduct an empirical study to evaluate the impact of the proposed visualization in program comprehension. The experimental group (having the proposed tool support), on average, completes the tasks in 45% less time as compared to the control group (not provided with the proposed tool). Results show that the proposed tool enables to comprehend more information with less effort and time. We have also evaluated the performance of the proposed tool using 20 benchmark software tools. The proposed tool is anticipated to help the developer in understanding Java programs and assist in program comprehension and maintenance by identifying APIs usage and their patterns.
