TL;DR: An approach to recognizing human hand gestures from a monocular temporal sequence of color images is presented and trained and tested with an overall recognition of 100%.
Abstract: An approach to recognizing human hand gestures from a monocular temporal sequence of color images is presented in this paper. The focus is on the representation and recognition of hand movements that are used in single handed (right hand is the dominant hand) American sign language (ASL). This work has been done with the help of markov chains while we have carried it out with STANN. The first level of decomposition is in terms of three sets of primitives, hand shape, location and movement. Further levels of decomposition involve the lexical and sentence levels and are part of future work. The approach has been trained and tested with an overall recognition of 100%

TL;DR: The speedup in computation as a result of using two-bit transform is rectified by imposing a modified version of multilevel successive elimination algorithm in orthogonal form, which reduces the number of search points in the search window.
Abstract: Reduced bit representations of video sequences are employed in order to mitigate the computational complexity of block matching algorithms. The idea is to explore computationally cheaper matching criteria than the conventional sum of absolute difference or fuzzy theory. Such low cost matching criteria result in substantial time saving and can therefore achieve real time video compression. To reduce the computational burden of such algorithms even further, we used them in orthogonal to the algorithms which reduces the number of search points in the search window. The speedup in computation as a result of using two-bit transform is rectified by imposing a modified version of multilevel successive elimination algorithm in orthogonal form. Experimental results show that the numbers of search points can be reduced by an average of 95% for sequences with low motion content and by an average of 85% for sequences with relatively high motion content. For all the results the same peak-signal-to-noise ratio of the reconstructed frames is maintained as that of the two-bit transform.

TL;DR: In this article, the performance of poly-N-Epoxy-Propyl Carbazole (PEPC) was investigated for single-layer memory devices with or without doping of charge transfer complexes 7,7,8,8-tetra-cyanoquino-dimethane (TCNQ), and it was found that PEPC shows memory switching effects in both cases (with or without the TCNQ complex).
Abstract: Generally, polymer-based memory devices store information in a manner distinct from that of silicon-based memory devices. Conventional silicon memory devices store charges as either zero or one for digital information, whereas most polymers store charges by the switching of electrical resistance. For the first time, this study reports that the novel conducting polymer Poly-N-Epoxy-Propyl Carbazole (PEPC) can offer effective memory storage behavior. In the current research, the electrical characterization of a single layer memory device (metal/polymer/metal) using PEPC, with or without doping of charge transfer complexes 7,7,8,8-tetra-cyanoquino-dimethane (TCNQ), was investigated. From the current–voltage characteristics, it was found that PEPC shows memory switching effects in both cases (with or without the TCNQ complex). However, in the presence of TCNQ, the PEPC performs faster memory switching at relatively lower voltage and, therefore, a higher ON and OFF ratio (ION/IOFF ~ 100) was observed. The outcome of this study may help to further understand the memory switching effects of conducting polymer.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented the analytical modeling for the design of a micro gripper system that comprises dual jaw actuation mechanism with real-time contact sensing, where the interdigitated lateral comb-drive based electrostatic actuator is used to move the gripper arms.
Abstract: This paper presents the analytical modeling for the design of a microgripper system that comprises dual jaw actuation mechanism with real-time contact sensing. The interdigitated lateral comb-drive based electrostatic actuator is used to move the gripper arms. Simultaneous contact sensing is achieved through a transverse comb based capacitive sensor, to detect the contact between the jaws and microobject. The detailed analytical modeling of the microgripper reveals that the stresses induced in the structure is well below the maximum yield stress of 7000 MPa for single crystal silicon. The fabricated microgripper produced a displacement of 16 $\mu$m at gripper jaws for the applied actuation voltage of 45 V, which is approximately the same as predicted by the analytical model.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors have used environmental input-output (EIO) analysis for the estimation of direct and indirect CO2 emissions from fossil fuel consumption by the economy in year 2012 Keeping in view the huge coal reserves in Thar Desert of Pakistan, they have developed a policy scenario in which coal is substituted by 100% for other fossil fuel types.
Abstract: Energy is considered as the backbone of an economy since all the production is dependent on energy consumption Fossil fuels are currently the major energy source in most of the developing and developed countries The use of fossil fuels as energy source does not seem to support the concept of sustainability but in developing economies like Pakistan, the use of the indigenous fossil resources is vital to fulfill the energy demand of the country and to improve the socio-economic status of the people In this study, we have used environmental input–output (EIO) analysis for the estimation of direct and indirect CO2 emissions from fossil fuel consumption by the economy in year 2012 Keeping in view the huge coal reserves in Thar Desert of Pakistan, we have developed a policy scenario in which coal is substituted by 100% for other fossil fuel types Total CO2 emissions for this case are noted to be 16% higher than those estimated for 2012 CO2 emissions per capita come out to be 085 tons which is still less than that of India, China, USA, Middle East and Europe This study recommends the use of indigenous coal as a short-term solution to the energy crisis in the country Research and development activities should be escalated for a gradual transition toward more sustainable energy systems
