Abstract: Abstract Biomaterials play a significant role in revolutionizing human life in terms of implants and medical devices. These materials essentially need to be highly biocompatible and inert to the human physiological conditions. This paper provides an in-depth, critical and analytical review on the previous research work and studies conducted in the field of metals and alloys used as implant materials including stainless steel, titanium and its alloys, cobalt chromium and others. Since the manufacturing of medical implants relies on selected grades of biomaterials, metals play a significant role in biomaterials market. This paper focuses on highlighting some basic principles of manufacturing implant materials underlying composition, structure and properties of these materials. Finally, attention is also given to the role of these implant materials on the betterment of human life in terms of their failures by critically analysing these materials.

TL;DR: A novel method established on the bag-of-words (BoW) model is recommended, which perform visual words integration of the local intensity order pattern (LIOP) feature and local binary pattern variance (LBPV) feature to reduce the issue of the semantic gap and enhance the performance of the content-based image retrieval (CBIR).
Abstract: The advancements in the multimedia technologies result in the growth of the image databases. To retrieve images from such image databases using visual attributes of the images is a challenging task...

TL;DR: In this article, a comparison of high temperature oxidation behavior in two superalloys was made using optical and scanning electron microscopical techniques, and the morphology of oxide growth in the specimens was examined in specimens exposed at 1000 and 1200°C, respectively in air.
Abstract: High temperature oxidation in two superalloys has been studied using optical and scanning electron microscopical techniques. The main applications of superalloys include aircraft turbine blades to heat exchanger tubings for nuclear reactors. The present investigation deals with a comparison of high temperature oxidation behaviour in two superalloys. The morphology of oxide growth in the specimens was examined in specimens exposed at 1000 and 1200°C, respectively in air. The energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and fine-probe linescan microanalysis and X-ray mapping revealed diffusion of the elements across the metal and oxide regions. Preferential internal oxidation and the role of structural defects were investigated including a comparison of oxide precipitates grown within and at the grain boundaries of both the alloys. The effect of microstructure on the formation of voids, internal and external oxide was examined to elucidate the mechanism of high temperature oxidation in the alloys. In conclusion, Incoloy 800H exhibited higher resistance to oxidation as compared to Incoloy 825.
