TL;DR: In this paper, a shape memory epoxy thermoset was prepared by blending epoxy resin with poly(ethylene glycol-ran-propylene glycol) random copolymer (PEG-ran PPG) or RCP.
Abstract: In this work, we prepared thermoresponsive shape memory epoxy thermosets by blending epoxy resin with poly(ethylene glycol-ran-propylene glycol) random copolymer (PEG-ran-PPG or RCP). Incorporation of RCP precisely tuned the temperature showing the shape memory effect of epoxy thermoset, which was established by dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and fold-deploy test. FTIR spectroscopy confirmed that the compatibility of the system is caused by intermolecular hydrogen bonding and only at high RCP concentration some phase separation starts. DMA and thermomechanical analysis provided evidence for the interactions of RCP chains with epoxy thermoset. The impact strength considerably increased especially for 30 and 40 wt % RCP modified blends. Furthermore, the blends exhibited good thermal stability in conjunction with excellent UV resistance.

25 Jul 2017TL;DR: The results suggest that the cytotoxicity of AuNPs to A549 cells increase with the dose and hydrophobicity of amphiphiles and were found to be in the order: DCaLC-AuNPs > DCaDC-AeNPs • DCaC-AiNPs.
Abstract: Herein, we report the surface functionality of dicationic cysteamine conjugated cholic acid (DCaC), dicationic cysteamine conjugated deoxycholic acid (DCaDC), and dicationic cysteamine conjugated lithocholic acid (DCaLC) templated gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) on mammalian cells. The haemocompatibility of the synthesized NPs was evaluated by in vitro hemolysis and erythrocyte sedimentation rate using human red blood cells (RBCs). In all of the systems, no toxicity was observed on human erythrocytes (RBCs) up to the concentration of 120 μg/mL. The anticancer activity of these dicationic amphiphile-stabilized AuNPs on A549 lung cancer cells was demonstrated by in vitro cell viability assay, intracellular reactive oxygen species estimation by DCFH-DA, apoptosis analysis using AO-EtBr fluorescence staining, DNA fragmentation analysis by agarose gel electrophoresis, and western blot analysis of caspase-3 expression. These results suggest that the cytotoxicity of AuNPs to A549 cells increase with the dose and hydrophobicity of amphiphiles and were found to be in the order: DCaLC-AuNPs > DCaDC-AuNPs > DCaC-AuNPs.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of various concentrations of polyvinylpyrolidone (PVP) on the resultant CoFe2O4 powder was studied and the resultant samples were characterized by XRD, TG/DSC, HR-SEM and VSM.
Abstract: CoFe2O4 particles were synthesized using metallic nitrates and polyvinylpyrolidone (PVP) using sol–gel method followed by calcination for 2 h at 960 °C. PVP performed as a surfactant and the effect of various concentrations of PVP on the resultant CoFe2O4 powder was studied. The resultant samples were characterized by XRD, TG/DSC, HR-SEM and VSM. X-ray diffraction results indicated the crystalline phase of CoFe2O4 particles and impurity phase of hematite was observed for higher PVP concentrations. SEM images demonstrated the influence of PVP concentration on the size of the particles. By VSM measurements, the variations in magnetic properties with respect to PVP concentration are studied. All the magnetic characteristics H

increased for 6 wt% and 15 wt% of PVP concentration. The CoFe2O4 particles synthesized with the optimum concentration of PVP may be very attractive for potential applications because of their outstanding magnetic properties (M

TL;DR: In this paper, half hourly data of soil moisture content, soil temperature, solar irradiance, and reflectance are measured during April 2010 to March 2011 at a tropical station, viz., Astronomical Observatory, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India (76°59'E longitude and 8°29'N latitude).
Abstract: Half hourly data of soil moisture content, soil temperature, solar irradiance, and reflectance are measured during April 2010 to March 2011 at a tropical station, viz., Astronomical Observatory, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India (76°59’E longitude and 8°29’N latitude). The monthly, seasonal and seasonal mean diurnal variation of soil moisture content is analyzed in detail and is correlated with the rainfall measured at the same site during the period of study. The large variability in the soil moisture content is attributed to the rainfall during all the seasons and also to the evaporation/movement of water to deeper layers. The relationship of surface albedo on soil moisture content on different time scales are studied and the influence of solar elevation angle and cloud cover are also investigated. Surface albedo is found to fall exponentially with increase in soil moisture content. Soil thermal diffusivity and soil thermal conductivity are also estimated from the subsoil temperature profile. Log normal dependence of thermal diffusivity and power law dependence of thermal conductivity on soil moisture content are confirmed.
