TL;DR: Red meat can be used to make a new snack product with improved nutritional value and textural properties, and essential amino acids increased with the increasing fish meat.
Abstract: BACKGROUND Red fish meat (a by-product of fillet processing from grass carp) is a rich source of good-quality protein, which makes it an important candidate for the production of functional foods. In this study, wheat flour was replaced with red fish meat (RFM) leftover from grass carp fillet frames at different levels (100-300 g kg-1 ) in fried snacks on a laboratory scale. The quality characteristics, physicochemical properties and sensory acceptability of the fried snacks were assessed. RESULTS The addition of RFM significantly (P < 0.05) increased protein, fat, moisture and ash contents, while texture (breakage force) was improved. Expansion and water hydration capacity were decreased with increasing content of RFM. Lightness (L*) was increased whereas redness (a*) and yellowness (b*) were decreased with the addition of RFM. Scanning electron microscopy showed that the protein matrix was increased and fewer starch granules were found when RFM was added. Moreover, in vitro protein digestibility was also increased in samples prepared with RFM compared with the control. Furthermore, essential amino acids (lysine, leucine, threonine and methionine) increased (1.2-fold compared with the control) with increasing RFM content. CONCLUSION The results suggested that red fish meat can be used to make a new snack product with improved nutritional value and textural properties. © 2019 Society of Chemical Industry.

TL;DR: The changes in the hormone levels caused by the mercuric chloride treatment suggest the dysfunction of pituitary-testicular axis.
Abstract: The effect of mercuric chloride at two different doses, 0.5 mg/kg body weight (low dose), 1 mg/kg body weight (high dose), for 30 days, was seen on the circulating hormones in the mature male albino rats. Testosterone level was markedly decreased in the low dose (P < 0.01) and high dose (P < 0.001) treated animals. The level of luteinizing hormone (LH) was also reduced in the low dose (P < 0.01) as well as in the high dose (P < 0.001) treated animals. However, follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and prolactin (PRL) levels were found to be decreased only in the high dose (P < 0. 05) treated animals and no change was observed in the low dose treated animals. The changes in the hormone levels caused by the mercuric chloride treatment suggest the dysfunction of pituitary-testicular axis.

01 Jan 2021TL;DR: In this paper, a green strategy was used to synthesize copper oxide/Carbon nanocomposites (CuO/C NC) by using the aqueous leaf decoction of Vitex negundo Linn for its application in the degradation of Methylene Blue (MB), Coomassie Brilliant Blue (CBB), and Congo Red (CR) dyes.
Abstract: Copper Oxide/Carbon nanocomposites (CuO/C NC) have been synthesized via a green strategy by using the aqueous leaf decoction of Vitex negundo Linn for its application in the degradation of Methylene Blue (MB), Coomassie Brilliant Blue (CBB), and Congo Red (CR) dyes. The characterization techniques such as FTIR, XPS, UV–Visible spectroscopy, FE-SEM, and Micro Raman were adopted to analyze the material's physicochemical characteristics and surface morphology. The UV-Visible spectrum exhibited a characteristic peak at 274 nm, and the FESEM analysis showed that the composites were nanoflakes of thickness less than 10 nm. The adsorption mechanism was elucidated by varying time, the dosage of adsorbent, concentration of dyes, and temperature. The Pseudo second-order kinetics and Langmuir isotherm model finely define the adsorption mechanism. The maximal adsorption capacity of the nanocomposites at room temperature for CBB, MB, and CR dyes is 9.09, 4.05, and 17.43 mg/g, respectively. The negative value of ΔG° showed the endothermic and spontaneous nature of adsorption. After a deep investigation on this particular topic, it has been assumed that this one is the maiden report on the adsorption of organic dyes using CuO/C NC synthesized by using V. negundo L. leaf extract.
