Abstract: In this paper, we generate the Lax pair for the one-dimensional Gross-Pitaevskii equation with time-dependent scattering length in the presence of a confining or expulsive harmonic time-dependent trap. We then exploit the Lax pair profitably to construct multisoliton solutions using gauge transformation from a trivial input solution. In particular, we have investigated the effect of both expulsive and confining traps on soliton interaction. Even though we find that the amplitude of the bright soliton relies upon the time-dependent scattering length and the external time-dependent trap with the velocity being dictated by the external trap alone, the observation of interdependence of the scattering length on the trap shows that the bright solitons not only can be compressed into a desirable width and amplitude but also can be remote controlled and driven anywhere in the plane by suitably maneuvering the external time-dependent trap alone.

Abstract: A series of clay supported metal containing catalysts were prepared and their catalytic performance was evaluated in the synthesis of tetrasubstitued imidazoles under solvent free condition. It was found that K10 supported titanium catalyst showed higher activity compared to other catalysts. The catalysts were characterized by FTIR, XRD, TG/DTA, BET surface area and SEM. The general applicability of the method was demonstrated for the synthesis of tetra- substituted imidazoles from aldehydes and amines containing various electron donating and electron withdrawing substituents. The diversity of the catalyst was studied by synthesis of benzimidazoles and quinoxalines. The mechanism of formation of the products is explained in detail. The catalyst was found to be active for three cycles.

Abstract: Thermal properties such as thermal diffusivity and thermal conductivity are measured by photoacoustics at room temperature for various particle sizes, thicknesses and the percentage of mixing of poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) in Poly (vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF)/PVA blends. The results are compared with other experimental reports, which is by laser flash technique for various temperatures. The agreement is very good at room temperature; in our study, it is 0.20 Wm−1 K−1, whereas by laser flash technique it is 0.18 Wm−1 K−1 for thermal conductivity. The importance of dislocation density and strain is discussed.
