TL;DR: The Canadian Tourism Attitude and Motivation Study was set up in 1982 with the objective of developing an understanding of the Canadian travel market as mentioned in this paper, which describes how the population was sampled and the data classified according to three broad criteria relating to the types of pleasure trip chosen by individuals.

TL;DR: Indices of ova total lipid content, fatty acid composition and mineral composition explained significant variation in embryonic survival not accounted for by maternal age and spawning date, whereas indices of protein content and composition generally explained less variance.
Abstract: – Understanding how maternal and ova traits influence offspring quality is a key issue in both ecological research and fish culture. We examined the survival and size at hatch of walleye embryos in relation to a suite of maternal and ova traits in laboratory incubation trials involving two native walleye populations. Ova were analysed for size, lipid content, fatty acid composition, soluble protein content and size composition, and mineral (Ca, Co, Cu, Fe, Mg, Mn and Zn) content. Embryonic survival (egg hatching success) varied most consistently with respect to spawning date and maternal age. Embryonic survival increased with maternal age, but other indices of maternal health, such as condition (residual mass at length) or somatic lipid content, did not account for significant amounts of variation. Indices of ova total lipid content, fatty acid composition and mineral composition explained significant variation in embryonic survival not accounted for by maternal age and spawning date, whereas indices of protein content and composition generally explained less variance. Both larval mass and length at hatch were primarily determined by ovum size, but length at hatch was also related to some aspects of ova fatty acid and mineral composition.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explore the linkages between export market participation and productivity performance in Canadian manufacturing plants and examine differences in the effect of exporting on productivity between foreign-controlled and domestic-controlled plants, and between young and older plants.
Abstract: In this paper, we explore the linkages between export-market participation and productivity performance in Canadian manufacturing plants. We also examine differences in the effect of exporting on productivity between foreign-controlled and domestic-controlled plants, and between young and older plants. We find that export participation improves productivity. The effect is much stronger for domestic-controlled plants than for foreign-controlled plants. We interpret this as evidence that it is the international orientation or globalization of a firm rather than ownership per se that is important for productivity growth. We also find that exporting matters more for young businesses than for older businesses.

TL;DR: Twenty-one narwhals tagged in 2003 and 2004 in Admiralty Inlet showed a different summer distributional pattern than previous narwhal-tracking studies from Somerset Island, Eclipse Sound and Melville Bay, and distribution size of range, and population size did not appear to be related.
Abstract: Twenty-one narwhals tagged in 2003 and 2004 in Admiralty Inlet showed a different summer distributional pattern than previous narwhal-tracking studies from Somerset Island, Eclipse Sound and Melville Bay. The migration of the narwhals tracked from Admiralty Inlet moved out through Lancaster Sound 15 days earlier (P < 0.0001) than the narwhals summering around Eclipse Sound, whereas the Admiralty Inlet narwhals reached the mouths of Eclipse Sound 18 days later (P < 0.0001) than the Eclipse Sound summering population. The winter range of the Admiralty Inlet narwhals overlapped with the winter range of narwhals from Melville Bay and Eclipse Sound in central southern Baffin Bay and Northern Davis Strait, but not with the winter range of narwhals from Somerset Island that wintered further north. Distribution size of range, and population size did not appear to be related. An example of considerable year to year variation between area of summer and winter distribution in the 2 years was believed to be related to the sample size and number of pods of whales tagged, rather than to differences in sex or age classes.
