TL;DR: In this paper, the output power of a Gd-vanadate Nd:GdVO4 laser with simultaneous dual-wavelength emission at 1.06 and 1.34 μm was analyzed.
Abstract: Output performances of Nd-vanadate lasers with simultaneous dual-wavelength emission on the 1.06-μm 4 F 3/2 → 4 I 11/2 transition and the 4 F 3/2 → 4 I 13/2 transition at 1.34 μm are discussed. The design uses a linear resonator for emission at 1.06 μm and an L-type folded resonator for the 1.34-μm wavelength, and the ratio between the power of a single wavelength and the total power is adjusted by the choice of the output mirror transmissions. A continuous-wave (CW) Nd:GdVO4 laser with total output power in the range of 3.9 to 6.8 W and the corresponding ratio of the output power at 1.06 μm to the total output power between 0.26 and 0.97 is realized. It is also shown that in comparison with the pump at 808 nm, the pump directly into the 4 F 3/2 emitting level at 879 nm improves the total output power. Furthermore, a Nd:GdVO4 laser with simultaneous emission at 1.06 and 1.34 μm and that generates also green light at 0.53 μm by intracavity frequency-doubling with LiB3O5 (LBO) nonlinear crystal is demonstrated.

TL;DR: A concept of a Multifunctional or Enhanced MCQ which offer teachers, when using the software, the possibility to write questions with one statement and up to 10 answers which in their turn can be individually enabled or disabled by them.
Abstract: We wanted to refine the old computer aided concept we developed several years ago for teaching and learning medical physiology, by adding new tools to enhance motivation and thinking of both medical students and teachers. Since all the future exams of our University will rely mainly on a written, or even better, computerized multiple choice format, we focused on tools that motivate teachers in writing good multiple-choice questions (MCQ), not only for final exam but for teaching students as well, and tools to motivate students to perform MCQ tests during semester. We developed a concept of a Multifunctional or Enhanced MCQ which offer teachers, when using our software, the possibility to write questions with one statement and up to 10 answers which in their turn can be individually enabled or disabled by them. We conceived a precise protocol for calculation of Current P index and Current D index of each MCQ which is useful for a permanent, during semester, refining of poor quality questions or to adjust current overall difficulty of the MCQ set according to student performances and/or teacher expectancies.

TL;DR: In this paper, the welding flame, laser and ultrasound were compared in orthodontic appliances and the results highlight the comparative strengths, weaknesses of the processes used respectively and highlight opportunities offered by laser welding process is related to the flame, i.e. ultrasound.
Abstract: NiTi welded joints in the form of wires or thin blades are used in orthodontic appliances. Problems arise due to welding heat transfer sections specifically reduced. The research is focused on the welding flame, laser and ultrasound. The main objective is to define the characteristics of use of welded joints based on mechanical testing of tensile, hardness determination, metallographic examination. The study was enjoyed on a statistical interpretation of results. The results highlight the comparative strengths, weaknesses of the processes used respectively. It highlights opportunities offered by laser welding process is related to the flame, i.e. ultrasound.

TL;DR: Referral to a transplant center during the first cycles of chemotherapy appears to offer the best opportunity for long-term survival.
Abstract: Hepatoblastoma is the most common primary liver tumor of childhood. Most hepatoblastoma cases are sporadic, but others are associated with inherited conditions, suggesting the importance of genetic abnormalities in the pathogenesis and progression of this disease. A diverse range of cytogenetic alterations have been reported, as significant gains of genetic material, with various differences in the number and type of alterations between the different histologic components of hepatoblastoma. They could represent diagnostic marker, they may play a role in the tumorigenesis of hepatoblastoma and might become potential target for molecular therapeutics. An elevated serum alpha-fetoprotein is useful both at diagnosis of hepatoblastoma and in disease monitoring, by determining the success of surgical resection and/or response to adjuvant chemotherapy. Imaging has a significant role in the evaluation of hepatoblastoma, offering data about localization, resectability, and follow-up. Ultrasonography is the best initial imaging investigation of a child with a liver mass, allowing real-time investigation of the tumour. Complete surgical resection together with pre- and postoperative chemotherapy are the mainstay of treatment of hepatoblastoma. The potential down-staging effect of neoadjuvant chemotherapy on hepatoblastoma might facilitate remission and convert unresectable tumors into operable ones. Radical resection can be obtained either conventionally by partial hepatectomy or with orthotopic liver transplant. Complete hepatectomy with living donor liver transplantation provides optimal surgical treatment in unresectable stage III and initial stage IV disease confined to the liver at resection. Referral to a transplant center during the first cycles of chemotherapy appears to offer the best opportunity for long-term survival.

TL;DR: The prevalence of chronic respiratory failure (CRF) is currently increasing, due to the fact that CRF is the remote consequence of smoking exposure even in ex-smokers, and also to thefact that there is a progressive increase in average life expectancy in western countries.
Abstract: The prevalence of chronic respiratory failure (CRF) is currently increasing. This is due to the fact that CRF is the remote consequence of smoking exposure even in ex-smokers, and also to the fact that there is a progressive increase in average life expectancy in western countries. CRF impacts negatively on the functioning of the lungs as well as on other organs, and such negative influences can be measured objectively with various diagnostic tests or subjectively, from the patient’s overall point of view, by quality of life assessment.
