TL;DR: The Finite Element Method (FEM) is used to obtain the diagrams and the maximum values of von Mises stress and displacements for healthy knee, for the three studied cases of OA knee, orthotic devices-assemblies and for orthotic device—OA knee assemblies.
Abstract: The first aim of this paper is the development of a virtual model of a new orthotic device, starting from an existent orthotic device, currently used in knee rehabilitation and from the virtual models developed for healthy knee joint and for the knee joint affected by osteoarthritis (OA) disease with varus inclination of 5°, 10°, 15°. The second aim consists in the obtaining of stress and displacements using numerical simulations for healthy knee joint, for knee joint affected by osteoarthritis (OA) and for orthotic device—OA knee assemblies. The Finite Element Method (FEM) is used to obtain the diagrams and the maximum values of von Mises stress and displacements for healthy knee, for the three studied cases of OA knee, orthotic devices-assemblies. These values are extracted and compared. Finally, an experimental study is provided in order to compare the range of motion and the amplitude of the flexion-extension knees of a five patients group with OA knees with and without orthosis, and to mark out the advantages of the proposed orthotic device.

TL;DR: Serum CA 125 and HE4 levels and ROMA have good validity in the diagnosis of EOC, of which ROMA gives the best result and the ROMA index should be applied in clinical practice to help in the assessment and management of patients with suspected ovarian cancer.
Abstract: Objectives To evaluate the validity of serum CA-125, Human Epididymis protein 4 (HE4) and Risk of Malignancy Algorithm (ROMA) at standard and optimal cut-offs, in preoperative prediction of epithelial ovarian carcinoma (EOC) in Vietnam Subjects and methods Cross-sectional, descriptive study on 277 patients with ovarian masses hospitalized at the OBGYN Departments, Hue University Hospital and Hue Central Hospital, Vietnam, from 01/2016 to 11/2017 All patients had measurements of serum CA-125 by Elecsys 2010 system and HE4 by immunoassay ARCHITECT® HE4 kits; ROMA calculated, and preoperative malignancy risk estimated Matching these values to postoperative histopathology resulted in the preoperative prediction values Results There were 30 (108%) cases of EOC Median values of CA 125, HE4, and ROMA of EOC and benign tumors were 21420 U/ml, 1891 U/ml; 9000 pmol/l, 3980 pmol/l; and 5520%, 480%, respectively The sensitivities and specificity of CA125, HE4, and ROMA to distinguish between malignant and benign tumors at standard cut-offs were 833% and 785%; 50% and 9838%; 800% and 84,6%, and those at optimal cut-offs were 833% and 866%; 800% and 915%, 867% and 887%, respectively AUCs of CA-125, HE4, and ROMA were 0872, 0894, 0912; and those for the post-menopausal group were 0900, 0894 and 0924, respectively Conclusion Serum CA 125 and HE4 levels and ROMA have good validity in the diagnosis of EOC, of which ROMA gives the best result The ROMA index should be applied in clinical practice to help in the assessment and management of patients with suspected ovarian cancer

TL;DR: In this paper, the thermal properties of two typical actuators of intelligent systems (Ni-Ti SMA cantilever and SMA helical spring) are evaluated for thermal analysis experiments.
Abstract: For two typical actuators of intelligent systems (Ni–Ti SMA cantilever and SMA helical spring), the evaluation of their thermal characteristics is presented. In order to determine the transformation temperatures and other thermal parameters of the two studied elements, the attention was concentrated on thermal analysis experiments. For each actuator configuration, comprehensive graphical interfaces have been developed, to run in Visual Basic, with respect to the results of performed thermal analyses.

TL;DR: The enantiomer-specific characterization of ofloxacin–cyclodextrin complexes was carried out by a set of complementary analytical techniques, verifying that SP greatly affects the complex stability.
Abstract: The enantiomer-specific characterization of ofloxacin–cyclodextrin complexes was carried out by a set of complementary analytical techniques. The apparent stability constants of the ofloxacin enantiomers with 20 different cyclodextrins at two different pH values were determined to achieve good resolution capillary electrophoresis enantioseparation either to establish enantioselective drug analysis assay, or to interpret and design improved host–guest interactions at the molecular level. The cyclodextrins studied differed in the nature of substituents, degree of substitution (DS), charge and purity, allowing a systematic test of these properties on the complexation. The seven-membered beta-cyclodextrin and its derivatives were found to be the most suitable hosts. Highest stability and best enantioseparation were observed for the carboxymethylated-beta-cyclodextrin (DS ~ 3.5). The effect of substitution pattern (SP) was investigated by molecular modeling, verifying that SP greatly affects the complex stability. Induced circular dichroism was observed and found especially significant on carboxymethylated-beta-cyclodextrin. The complex stoichiometry and the geometry of the inclusion complexes were determined by 1H NMR spectroscopy, including 2D ROESY techniques. Irrespective of the kind of cyclodextrin, the complexation ratio was found to be 1:1. The alfa-cyclodextrin cavity can accommodate the oxazine ring only, whereas the whole tricyclic moiety can enter the beta- and gamma-cyclodextrin cavities. These equilibrium and structural information offer molecular basis for improved drug formulation.
