Abstract: This paper investigates the problem of event-triggered $H_{\infty}$ control for a networked singular system with both state and input subject to quantizations. First, a discrete event-triggered scheme, which activates only at each sampling instance, is presented. Next, two new sector bound conditions of quantizers are proposed to provide a more intuitive stability analysis and controller design. Then, network conditions, quantizations, and the event-triggered scheme are modeled as a time-delay system. With this model, the criteria are derived for $H_{\infty}$ performance analysis, and codesigning methods are developed for the event trigger and the quantized state feedback controller. An inverted pendulum controlled through the network is given to demonstrate the effectiveness and potential of the new design techniques.

Abstract: Rare-earth-based upconversion nanotechnology has recently shown great promise for photodynamic therapy (PDT). However, the NIR-induced PDT is greatly restricted by overheating issues on normal bodies and low yields of reactive oxygen species (ROS, 1O2). Here, IR-808-sensitized upconversion nanoparticles (NaGdF4:Yb,Er@NaGdF4:Nd,Yb) were combined with mesoporous silica, which has Ce6 (red-light-excited photosensitizer) and MC540 (green-light-excited photosensitizer) loaded inside through covalent bond and electrostatic interaction, respectively. When irradiated by tissue-penetrable 808 nm light, the IR-808 greatly absorb 808 nm photons and then emit a broadband peak which overlaps perfectly with the absorption of Nd3+ and Yb3+. Thereafter, the Nd3+/Yb3+ incorporated shell synergistically captures the emitted NIR photons to illuminate NaGdF4:Yb,Er zone and then radiate ultrabright green and red emissions. Abstract: Hosting a collection of millions of videos, YouTube offers several features to help users discover the videos of their interest. For example, YouTube provides video search, related video recommendation and front page highlight. The understanding of how these features drive video views is useful for creating a strategy to drive video popularity. In this paper, we perform a measurement study on data sets crawled from YouTube and find that the related video recommendation, which recommends the videos that are related to the video a user is watching, is one of the most important view sources of videos. Despite the fact that the YouTube video search is the number one source of views in aggregation, the related video recommendation is the main source of views for the majority of the videos on YouTube. Furthermore, our results reveal that there is a strong correlation between the view count of a video and the average view count of its top referrer videos. This implies that a video has a higher chance to become popular when it is placed on the related video recommendation lists of popular videos. We also find that the click through rate from a video to its related videos is high and the position of a video in a related video list plays a critical role in the click through rate. Finally, our evaluation of the impact of the related video recommendation system on the diversity of video views indicates that the current recommendation system helps to increase the diversity of video views in aggregation.

Abstract: Although magnesium alloys, as the lightest structural alloys, offer significant potential for automotive applications, their applications remain limited due to their poor formability at room temperature. Since the strategies used for improving formability usually result in a degradation of strength, there are no high strength magnesium alloys showing good formability. Here we report an alloy design concept that can simultaneously provide high strength and good formability. Such designed alloy when subjected to an appropriate processing technique shows a combination of strength and formability that surpasses those of the existing magnesium alloys reported so far. The alloy design concept used in the present study is based on the utilization of alloying elements that can induce precipitation, as well as maximize the segregation of other texture-controlling alloying elements. Such developed alloy is expected to broaden the application of Mg alloy sheets, which are now starting to gain acceptance by automotive industries.
