TL;DR: A global network-based computational framework, RWRlncD, is proposed to infer potential human lncRNA-disease associations by implementing the random walk with restart method on a lnc RNA functional similarity network and is robust to different parameter selections.
Abstract: Accumulating evidence demonstrates that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play important roles in the development and progression of complex human diseases, and predicting novel human lncRNA–disease associations is a challenging and urgently needed task, especially at a time when increasing amounts of lncRNA-related biological data are available. In this study, we proposed a global network-based computational framework, RWRlncD, to infer potential human lncRNA–disease associations by implementing the random walk with restart method on a lncRNA functional similarity network. The performance of RWRlncD was evaluated by experimentally verified lncRNA–disease associations, based on leave-one-out cross-validation. We achieved an area under the ROC curve of 0.822, demonstrating the excellent performance of RWRlncD. Significantly, the performance of RWRlncD is robust to different parameter selections. Predictively highly-ranked lncRNA–disease associations in case studies of prostate cancer and Alzheimer's disease were manually confirmed by literature mining, providing evidence of the good performance and potential value of the RWRlncD method in predicting lncRNA–disease associations.

TL;DR: A new stability concept generalizing the traditional mean-square stability is proposed such that numerically testable criteria on the basis of SMK are obtained.
Abstract: This technical note is concerned with the problems of stability and stabilization for a class of discrete-time semi-Markov jump linear systems (S-MJLSs). The discrete-time semi-Markov kernel (SMK) is introduced, where the probability density function of sojourn-time is dependent on both current and next system mode. As a consequence, different types of distributions and/or different parameters in a same type of distribution of sojourn-time, depending on the target mode towards which the system jumps, can coexist in each mode of a SMK. The underlying S-MJLSs are therefore more general than those considered in existing studies. A new stability concept generalizing the traditional mean-square stability is proposed such that numerically testable criteria on the basis of SMK are obtained. Numerical examples are presented to illustrate the validity and advantage of the developed theoretical results.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used density functional theory (DFT) calculations and dual descriptor to provide insights into SMT degradation, which indicated that the central cleavages of SMT such as S−N, S−C, and N−C bonds or adducts on the rings would easily occur to degrade SMT in the US/PMS system.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors demonstrate highly efficient water splitting in alkaline solution using quarternary mixed nickel iron phosphosulfide (Ni1−xFexPS3) nanosheets (NSs).
Abstract: Highly efficient earth-abundant electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) are of great importance for renewable energy conversion systems. Herein, guided by theoretical calculations, we demonstrate highly efficient water splitting in alkaline solution using quarternary mixed nickel iron phosphosulfide (Ni1–xFexPS3) nanosheets (NSs), even though neither NiPS3 nor FePS3 is a good HER (or OER) electrocatalyst. With tuned electronic structure and improved electrical conductivity induced by mixing appropriate amount of Fe into NiPS3, Ni0.9Fe0.1PS3 NSs display excellent HER activity (an overpotential of 72 mV vs reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) at a geometric catalytic current density of −10 mA cm–2 and a Tafel slope of 73 mV dec–1), which is among the best HER catalysts under alkaline conditions. Ni0.9Fe0.1PS3 NSs also show a good apparent OER activity (an overpotential of 329 mV vs RHE at a catalytic current density of 20 mA cm–2 and a Tafel slope of 69 ...
