01 Apr 2017TL;DR: The experimental results show that the proposed selective encoding model outperforms the state-of-the-art baseline models.
Abstract: We propose a selective encoding model to extend the sequence-to-sequence framework for abstractive sentence summarization. It consists of a sentence encoder, a selective gate network, and an attention equipped decoder. The sentence encoder and decoder are built with recurrent neural networks. The selective gate network constructs a second level sentence representation by controlling the information flow from encoder to decoder. The second level representation is tailored for sentence summarization task, which leads to better performance. We evaluate our model on the English Gigaword, DUC 2004 and MSR abstractive sentence summarization datasets. The experimental results show that the proposed selective encoding model outperforms the state-of-the-art baseline models.

01 Jun 2016TL;DR: A new tensor-based denoising approach by fully considering two intrinsic characteristics underlying an MSI, i.e., the global correlation along spectrum (GCS) and nonlocal self-similarity across space (NSS) is proposed.
Abstract: Multispectral images (MSI) can help deliver more faithful representation for real scenes than the traditional image system, and enhance the performance of many computer vision tasks. In real cases, however, an MSI is always corrupted by various noises. In this paper, we propose a new tensor-based denoising approach by fully considering two intrinsic characteristics underlying an MSI, i.e., the global correlation along spectrum (GCS) and nonlocal self-similarity across space (NSS). In specific, we construct a new tensor sparsity measure, called intrinsic tensor sparsity (ITS) measure, which encodes both sparsity insights delivered by the most typical Tucker and CANDECOMP/ PARAFAC (CP) low-rank decomposition for a general tensor. Then we build a new MSI denoising model by applying the proposed ITS measure on tensors formed by non-local similar patches within the MSI. The intrinsic GCS and NSS knowledge can then be efficiently explored under the regularization of this tensor sparsity measure to finely rectify the recovery of a MSI from its corruption. A series of experiments on simulated and real MSI denoising problems show that our method outperforms all state-of-the-arts under comprehensive quantitative performance measures.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors highlight the most promising developments reported at the 2017 International Workshop on Micropropulsion and Cubesats (MPCS-2017) by leading world-reputed experts in miniaturized space propulsion systems.
Abstract: Rapid evolution of miniaturized, automatic, robotized, function-centered devices has redefined space technology, bringing closer the realization of most ambitious interplanetary missions and intense near-Earth space exploration. Small unmanned satellites and probes are now being launched in hundreds at a time, resurrecting a dream of satellite constellations, i.e., wide, all-covering networks of small satellites capable of forming universal multifunctional, intelligent platforms for global communication, navigation, ubiquitous data mining, Earth observation, and many other functions, which was once doomed by the extraordinary cost of such systems. The ingression of novel nanostructured materials provided a solid base that enabled the advancement of these affordable systems in aspects of power, instrumentation, and communication. However, absence of efficient and reliable thrust systems with the capacity to support precise maneuvering of small satellites and CubeSats over long periods of deployment remains a real stumbling block both for the deployment of large satellite systems and for further exploration of deep space using a new generation of spacecraft. The last few years have seen tremendous global efforts to develop various miniaturized space thrusters, with great success stories. Yet, there are critical challenges that still face the space technology. These have been outlined at an inaugural International Workshop on Micropropulsion and Cubesats, MPCS-2017, a joint effort between Plasma Sources and Application Centre/Space Propulsion Centre (Singapore) and the Micropropulsion and Nanotechnology Lab, the G. Washington University (USA) devoted to miniaturized space propulsion systems, and hosted by CNR-Nanotec—P.Las.M.I. lab in Bari, Italy. This focused review aims to highlight the most promising developments reported at MPCS-2017 by leading world-reputed experts in miniaturized space propulsion systems. Recent advances in several major types of small thrusters including Hall thrusters, ion engines, helicon, and vacuum arc devices are presented, and trends and perspectives are outlined.

TL;DR: A model-based robust control is proposed for the polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell air-feed system, based on the second-order sliding mode algorithm that is robust and has a good transient performance in the presence of load variations and parametric uncertainties.
Abstract: In this paper, a model-based robust control is proposed for the polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell air-feed system, based on the second-order sliding mode algorithm. The control objective is to maximize the fuel cell net power and avoid the oxygen starvation by regulating the oxygen excess ratio to its desired value during fast load variations. The oxygen excess ratio is estimated via an extended state observer (ESO) from the measurements of the compressor flow rate, the load current, and the supply manifold pressure. A hardware-in-loop test bench, which consists of a commercial twin screw air compressor and a real-time fuel cell emulation system, is used to validate the performance of the proposed ESO-based controller. The experimental results show that the controller is robust and has a good transient performance in the presence of load variations and parametric uncertainties.

TL;DR: This multifunctional platform is promising for effective, safe and precise antitumor treatment and may stimulate interest in further exploration of drug loading on Bi2Se3 and other competent PTT agents combined with in situ imaging for biomedical applications.
Abstract: To integrate real-time monitoring and therapeutic functions into a single nanoagent, we have designed and synthesized a drug-delivery platform based on a polydopamine(PDA)/human serum albumin (HSA)/doxorubicin (DOX) coated bismuth selenide (Bi2Se3) nanoparticle (NP). The resultant product exhibits high stability and biocompatibility both in vitro and in vivo. In addition to the excellent capability for both X-ray computed tomography (CT) and infrared thermal imaging, the NPs possess strong near-infrared (NIR) absorbance, and high capability and stability of photothermal conversion for efficient photothermal therapy (PTT) applications. Furthermore, a bimodal on-demand pH/photothermal-sensitive drug release has been achieved, resulting in a significant chemotherapeutic effect. Most importantly, the tumor-growth inhibition ratio achieved from thermo-chemotherapy of the Bi2Se3@PDA/DOX/HSA NPs was 92.6%, in comparison to the chemotherapy (27.8%) or PTT (73.6%) alone, showing a superior synergistic therapeutic ...
