Abstract: BiOCl/BiOI composites with a visible light response were prepared by a simple hydrothermal method. Even though both single BiOCl and BiOI show low photocatalytic activity, BiOCl/BiOI composites provide enhanced efficiency in decomposing organic compounds including Methyl Orange (MO) and Rhodamine B (RhB). Furthermore, the 20%BiOCl/BiOI composite shows the highest efficiency for decomposing MO, while the highest performance is observed for the degradation of RhB over 70%BiOCl/BiOI composite. A possible photocatalytic mechanism has been proposed based on the relative experiments and the band positions of BiOCl and BiOI.

Abstract: Person re-identification has been usually solved as either the matching of single-image representation (SIR) or the classification of cross-image representation (CIR). In this work, we exploit the connection between these two categories of methods, and propose a joint learning frame-work to unify SIR and CIR using convolutional neural network (CNN). Specifically, our deep architecture contains one shared sub-network together with two sub-networks that extract the SIRs of given images and the CIRs of given image pairs, respectively. The SIR sub-network is required to be computed once for each image (in both the probe and gallery sets), and the depth of the CIR sub-network is required to be minimal to reduce computational burden. Therefore, the two types of representation can be jointly optimized for pursuing better matching accuracy with moderate computational cost. Furthermore, the representations learned with pairwise comparison and triplet comparison objectives can be combined to improve matching performance. Experiments on the CUHK03, CUHK01 and VIPeR datasets show that the proposed method can achieve favorable accuracy while compared with state-of-the-arts.

Abstract: Developing high-efficiency and low-cost photocatalysts by avoiding expensive noble metals, yet remarkably improving H2 evolution performance, is a great challenge. Noble-metal-free catalysts containing Co(Fe)NC moieties have been widely reported in recent years for electrochemical oxygen reduction reaction and have also gained noticeable interest for organic transformation. However, to date, no prior studies are available in the literature about the activity of N-coordinated metal centers for photocatalytic H2 evolution. Herein, a new photocatalyst containing g-C3N4 decorated with CoP nanodots constructed from low-cost precursors is reported. It is for the first time revealed that the unique P(δ−)Co(δ+)N(δ−) surface bonding states lead to much superior H2 evolution activity (96.2 µmol h−1) compared to noble metal (Pt)-decorated g-C3N4 photocatalyst (32.3 µmol h−1). The quantum efficiency of 12.4% at 420 nm is also much higher than the record values (≈2%) of other transition metal cocatalysts-loaded g-C3N4. It is believed that this work marks an important step toward developing high-performance and low-cost photocatalytic materials for H2 evolution.

Abstract: The development and utilization of solar energy in environmental remediation and water splitting is being intensively studied worldwide. During the past few decades, tremendous efforts have been devoted to developing non-toxic, low-cost, efficient and stable photocatalysts for water splitting and environmental remediation. To date, several hundreds of photocatalysts mainly based on metal oxides, sulfides and (oxy)nitrides with different structures and compositions have been reported. Among them, perovskite oxides and their derivatives (layered perovskite oxides) comprise a large family of semiconductor photocatalysts because of their structural simplicity and flexibility. This review specifically focuses on the general background of perovskite and its related materials, summarizes the recent development of perovskite photocatalysts and their applications in water splitting and environmental remediation, discusses the theoretical modelling and calculation of perovskite photocatalysts and presents the key challenges and perspectives on the research of perovskite photocatalysts.
