TL;DR: It was shown that wheat germination was reduced to 38.0% in the presence of 4.4 mmol/L [C4mim][BF4] compared with 100% germination for the control, and the root and shoot length of wheat seedlings decreased with increasing concentrations of this IL.
Abstract: Although many studies describe ionic liquids (ILs) as potentially greener solvents, few studies address their relationship with the environment. Recent researches suggest that some ILs have toxicity. 1-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([C4mim][BF4]) was reported to have the lowest toxicity among ILs. In this work, we studied the toxicity of this IL on wheat seedlings. It was shown that wheat germination was reduced to 38.0% in the presence of 4.4 mmol/L [C4mim][BF4] compared with 100% germination for the control. Similarly, the root and shoot length of wheat seedlings decreased with increasing concentrations of [C4mim][BF4]. The activity of amylase increased in shoots and roots, but it decreased significantly in germinating seeds when the [C4mim][BF4] concentration exceeded 1.8 mmol/L. Peroxidase (POD) activity and soluble protein content in shoots treated with [C4mim][BF4] changed similarly, but chlorophyll content tended to decrease with increasing concentration of [C4mim][BF4], except for at 1.8 mmol/L. Thus, [C4mim][BF4] at the concentration of 0.9 mmol/L or more was toxic to wheat seedlings. Some remedial measures are suggested to deal with IL pollution in the environment. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Environ Toxicol, 2009.

TL;DR: It is shown that the alkyl chain length of the cations and type of anion affect the ionic association constants and limiting molar conductivities of the ILs, and similar to the classical electrolytes, a linear relationship is observed between ln KA of theILs and the reciprocal of the dielectric constants of the molecular solvents.
Abstract: Considering the ionic nature of ionic liquids (ILs), ionic association is expected to be essential in solutions of ILs and to have an important influence on their applications. Although numerous studies have been reported for the ionic association behavior of ILs in solution, quantitative results are quite scarce. Herein, the conductivities of the ILs [Cnmim]Br (n=4, 6, 8, 10, 12), [C4mim][BF4], and [C4mim][PF6] in various molecular solvents (water, methanol, 1-propanol, 1-pentanol, acetonitrile, and acetone) are determined at 298.15 K as a function of IL concentration. The conductance data are analyzed by the Lee-Wheaton conductivity equation in terms of the ionic association constant (KA) and the limiting molar conductance (Lambda(m)(0)). Combined with the values for the Br- anion reported in the literature, the limiting molar conductivities and the transference numbers of the cations and [BF4]- and [PF6]- anions are calculated in the molecular solvents. It is shown that the alkyl chain length of the cations and type of anion affect the ionic association constants and limiting molar conductivities of the ILs. For a given anion (Br-), the Lambda(m)(0) values decrease with increasing alkyl chain length of the cations in all the molecular solvents, whereas the KA values of the ILs decrease in organic solvents but increase in water as the alkyl chain length of the cations increases. For the [C4mim]+ cation, the limiting molar conductivities of the ILs decrease in the order Br- > [BF4]- > [PF6]-, and their ionic association constants follow the order [BF4]- > [PF6]- > Br- in water, acetone, and acetonitrile. Furthermore, and similar to the classical electrolytes, a linear relationship is observed between ln KA of the ILs and the reciprocal of the dielectric constants of the molecular solvents. The ILs are solvated to a different extent by the molecular solvents, and ionic association is affected significantly by ionic solvation. This information is expected to be useful for the modulation of the IL conductance by the alkyl chain length of the cations, type of anion, and physical properties of the molecular solvents.

TL;DR: Among the four soil enzymes, only alkaline phosphatase was sensitive to oxytetracycline exposure with 41.3% decline of the enzyme activity at 10mg/kg antibiotic and further decrease of 64.3%-80.8% when the dosage over 30 mg/kg.
Abstract: The microbial community composition in wheat rhizosphere was analyzed by detecting colony forming units (CFUs) in agar plates. The total CFUs in rhizosphere were 1.04 x 10(9)/g soil with 9.0 x 10(8)/g bacteria, 1.37 x 10(8)/g actinomyces and 3.6 x 10(6)/g fungi. The 10 dominant bacteria were isolated from wheat rhizosphere and were grouped into genus Bacillus according to their full length 16S rRNA gene sequences. Although belonging to the same genus, the isolated strains exhibited different sensitivities to oxytetracycline. When a series of the rhizosphere soil was exposed under various concentrations of oxytetracycline, the microbial community structure was highly affected with significant decline of CFUs of bacteria and actinomyces (22.2% and 31.7% at 10 mg/kg antibiotic, respectively). This inhibition was clearly enhanced with the increase exposure dosage of antibiotic and could not be eliminated during 30 d incubation. There was no obvious influence of this treatment on fungi population. Among the four soil enzymes (alkaline phosphatase, acidic phosphatase, dehydrogenase and urease), only alkaline phosphatase was sensitive to oxytetracycline exposure with 41.3% decline of the enzyme activity at 10 mg/kg antibiotic and further decrease of 64.3%-80.8% when the dosage over 30 mg/kg.

TL;DR: A novel robust control law is established to make the state of system stable and to improve the robustness and the stability of system and a new reaching law is introduced to reduce the chattering.
Abstract: This paper is concerned with the stabilization problem for a class of nonlinear systems. Using the global sliding mode control approach, a novel robust control law is established to make the state of system stable and to improve the robustness and the stability of system. A new reaching law is introduced to reduce the chattering. Finally, the method is applied to chaotic systems and an example of the chaotic system is given to illustrate the advantage of the proposed method.

TL;DR: A good linear relationship of the concentration of dopamine hydrochloride versus absorbance was observed, and a linear regression equation of A = 0.022 + 0.16921C (microg mL(-1)) was obtained.
Abstract: In the present work, we developed a simple, sensitive and inexpensive method to determine dopamine hydrochloride using potassium ferricyanide-Fe(III) by spectrophotometry. The results show that Fe(III) is deoxidized to Fe(II) by dopamine hydrochloride at pH 4.0, and then Fe(II) reacts with potassium ferricyanide to form a soluble prussian blue (KFe(III)[Fe(II)(CN)6]). The absorbance of this product was monitored over time using a spectrophotometer at an absorption maximum of 735 nm, and the amount of dopamine hydrochloride could be calculated based on the absorbance. A good linear relationship of the concentration of dopamine hydrochloride versus absorbance was observed, and a linear regression equation of A = 0.022 + 0.16921C (microg mL(-1)) was obtained. Moreover, the apparent molar absorption coefficient for the indirect determination of dopamine hydrochloride was 3.2 x 10(4) L mol(-1) cm(-1). This described method has been used to determine dopamine hydrochloride in pharmaceutical, banana, urine and serum samples with satisfactory results.
