TL;DR: A novel robust control law is established to make the state of system stable and to improve the robustness and the stability of system and a new reaching law is introduced to reduce the chattering.
Abstract: This paper is concerned with the stabilization problem for a class of nonlinear systems. Using the global sliding mode control approach, a novel robust control law is established to make the state of system stable and to improve the robustness and the stability of system. A new reaching law is introduced to reduce the chattering. Finally, the method is applied to chaotic systems and an example of the chaotic system is given to illustrate the advantage of the proposed method.

TL;DR: It is reported that double-layered peptide nanoparticles induced robust specific immunity and protected mice against heterosubtypic influenza A virus challenges and indicate applications for other peptide-based vaccines and peptide drug delivery.
Abstract: Influenza is a persistent threat to public health. Here we report that double-layered peptide nanoparticles induced robust specific immunity and protected mice against heterosubtypic influenza A virus challenges. We fabricated the nanoparticles by desolvating a composite peptide of tandem copies of nucleoprotein epitopes into nanoparticles as cores and cross-linking another composite peptide of four tandem copies of influenza matrix protein 2 ectodomain epitopes to the core surfaces as a coating. Delivering the nanoparticles via dissolvable microneedle patch-based skin vaccination further enhanced the induced immunity. These peptide-only, layered nanoparticles demonstrated a strong antigen depot effect and migrated into spleens and draining (inguinal) lymph nodes for an extended period compared with soluble antigens. This increased antigen-presentation time correlated with the stronger immune responses in the nanoparticle-immunized group. The protection conferred by nanoparticle immunization was transferable by passive immune serum transfusion and depended partially on a functional IgG receptor FcγRIV. Using a conditional cell depletion, we found that CD8+ T cells were involved in the protection. The immunological potency and stability of the layered peptide nanoparticles indicate applications for other peptide-based vaccines and peptide drug delivery.

TL;DR: A spray-dried sulfur composite with large intrinsic internal pores, ensuring adequate local electrolyte availability, and evidence is provided that the high-frequency semicircle is mainly responsible for the often observed bypassing of the second plateau in lean electrolyte discharges.
Abstract: While backless freestanding 3D electrode architectures for batteries with high loading sulfur have flourished in the recent years, the more traditional and industrially turnkey 2D architecture has not received the same amount of attention. This work reports a spray-dried sulfur composite with large intrinsic internal pores, ensuring adequate local electrolyte availability. This material offers good performance with a electrolyte content of 7 µL mg-1 at high areal loadings (5-8 mg cm-2 ), while also offering the first reported 2.8 µL mg-1 (8 mg cm-2 ) to enter into the second plateau of discharge and continue to operate for 20 cycles. Moreover, evidence is provided that the high-frequency semicircle (i.e., interfacial resistance) is mainly responsible for the often observed bypassing of the second plateau in lean electrolyte discharges.

TL;DR: In this article, the nonlinear optomechanically-induced transparency (OMIT) with gain and loss was studied and it was shown that significant enhancement can be achieved for the higher-order sidebands, including the transmission rate and the group delay.
Abstract: We study the nonlinear optomechanically-induced transparency (OMIT) with gain and loss. We find that (i) for a single active cavity, significant enhancement can be achieved for the higher-order sidebands, including the transmission rate and the group delay; (ii) for active- passive-coupled cavities, hundreds of microsecond of optical delay or advance are attainable for the nonlinear sideband pulses in the parity-time-symmetric regime. The active higher-order OMIT effects, as firstly revealed here, open up the way to make a low-power optomechaical amplifier, which can amplify both the strength and group delay of not only the probe light but also its higher-order sidebands.
