TL;DR: A simple and sensitive electrochemical sensor based on (graphene quantum dot)/(gold nanoparticle) nanocomposite (GQD/AuNP) modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was constructed and utilized for the determination of quercetin this article.
Abstract: A simple and sensitive electrochemical sensor based on (graphene quantum dot)/(gold nanoparticle) nanocomposite (GQD/AuNP) modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) (GQD/AuNP/GCE) was constructed and utilized for the determination of quercetin. The nanocomposite of GQDs and AuNPs can greatly accelerate the electron transfer rate and showed excellent synergistic electrochemical activity for the oxidation of quercetin. Differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) was used for the quantitative determination of quercetin, the oxidation peak current was linear with the concentration of quercetin in the range of 0.01 to 6.0 μM with a detection limit of 2.0 nM which was more sensitive than most of the reported methods. Under the optimum conditions, the possible coexistence biological matrix including some metal ions, proteins, amino acids and other flavonoids with similar structures had no interference effect on the determination of quercetin. The proposed method was successfully applied to the sensitive determination of quercetin in human plasma samples with satisfactory recoveries.

TL;DR: The determination of trace PAHs in urine samples from smokers and nonsmokers was successfully carried out with this method, which implied that the versatile TCT MNPs and the robust method together represent a significant potential application in the analysis of body fluids and disease markers.
Abstract: To satisfy the requirement of simultaneous extraction and characterization of diverse kinds of multitarget analytes, the preparation, characterization, and application of a novel tetraazacalix[2]arene[2]triazine (TCT) coated magnetic nanoparticle (TCT MNP) adsorbent are presented in this paper. TCT assembles two benzene rings and two triazines with nitrogen cross-bridging links, which exhibits a unique structural framework and versatile recognition features based on the multiple recognition sites. These include π electron stacking, charge transfer, hydrogen bonding, and ion-exchange. TCT MNPs acted as a dispersive SPE adsorbent showing strong interaction with and adsorption of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), nitroaromatics, and heavy metal ions. The dispersive magnetic nanoparticle solid phase extraction (d-MNSPE) strategy with the simultaneous extraction and stepwise elution (SESE) procedure was designed and optimized for the five PAHs (phenanthrene, anthracene, pyrene, chrysene, and benzo(a)pyr...

TL;DR: It is shown that ectopic expression of miR‐153 also inhibits the protein kinase B (PKB/Akt) pathway via reducing the protein level of insulin receptor substrate‐2 (Irs‐2) and simultaneous treatment with the chromatin‐modifying drugs 4‐phenylbutyric acid and 5‐aza‐2′‐deoxycytidine induces miR-153 expression to suppress Irs‐ 2, Bcl‐2 and Mcl‐1 expressions
Abstract: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are noncoding RNAs that regulate gene expression by inhibiting translation or by promoting mRNA degradation. Previously, we established that microRNA-153 (miR-153) induces apoptosis by downregulating B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2) and myeloid cell leukemia sequence 1 (Mcl-1) protein expression levels in glioblastoma cell line DBTRG-05MG. In our study, we show that ectopic expression of miR-153 also inhibits the protein kinase B (PKB/Akt) pathway via reducing the protein level of insulin receptor substrate-2 (Irs-2). Moreover, simultaneous treatment with the chromatin-modifying drugs 4-phenylbutyric acid and 5-aza-2′-deoxycytidine induces miR-153 expression to suppress Irs-2, Bcl-2 and Mcl-1 expressions, thus downregulating the survival but upregulating the apoptotic pathways, implying that tumor suppressor miR-153 is a dual life and death regulator.
