TL;DR: In this article, a cross-flow ultrafiltration of pretreated casein whey was carried out in a crossflow module fitted with 5 kDa molecular weight cut-off polyethersulfone membrane to recover whey proteins in the retentate and lactose in the permeate.
Abstract: In this study, ultrafiltration (UF) of pretreated casein whey was carried out in a cross-flow module fitted with 5 kDa molecular weight cut-off polyethersulfone membrane to recover whey proteins in the retentate and lactose in the permeate. Effects of processing conditions, like transmembrane pressure and pH on permeate flux and rejection were investigated and reported. The polarised layer resistance was found to increase with time during UF even in this high shear device. The lactose concentration in the permeate was measured using dinitro salicylic acid method. Enzymatic kinetic study for lactose hydrolysis was carried out at three different temperatures ranging from 30 to 50 °C using β-galactosidase enzyme. The glucose formed during lactose hydrolysis was analyzed using glucose oxidase–peroxidase method. Kinetics of enzymatic hydrolysis of lactose solution was found to follow Michaelis–Menten model and the model parameters were estimated by Lineweaver–Burk plot. The hydrolysis rate was found to be maximum (with Vmax = 5.5091 mmol/L/min) at 30 °C.

TL;DR: In this paper, the suitability of bioactive glass-ceramics for application as bioactive coating on Ti-based biomedical implants was evaluated in vitro in simulated body fluid (SBF) solution.
Abstract: The present study showed the suitability of bioactive glass-ceramics for application as bioactive coating on Ti based biomedical implants. The desired properties of bioactive glass-ceramic coating were obtained through controlled crystallization. XRD, optical microscopy, SEM in association with EDX data showed the phase composition and morphology of the glass-ceramic coatings. Microhardness distribution across the coated substrates and the scratch resistance property of the coatings were varied for the differently heat treated coated substrates. The bioactivity of the fluroapatite based glass-ceramic coating on Ti6Al4V substrate was investigated in vitro in simulated body fluid (SBF) solution. After immersion in SBF solution the glass-ceramic coating surface was characterized by SEM, EDX analysis and the elemental compositional change of the SBF solution was determined by chemical analysis technique. SEM, EDX analysis and chemical analysis indicated that the glass-ceramic coatings reacted with the SBF solution and formed fluroapatite layer on their surfaces.

01 Dec 2010TL;DR: A simple and accurate method to extract the parasitic as well as the intrinsic components of a Bulk FinFET device is presented and the model predicts the Y parameter values accurately at high frequencies.
Abstract: In this paper, we present a simple and accurate method to extract the parasitic as well as the intrinsic components of a Bulk FinFET device. Based on the Y- parameter data obtained from the 3-dimensional device simulator Sentaurus TCAD, the parasitic components are de-embedded and an accurate modeling based on the equivalent small signal circuit is presented to extract the intrinsic parameters. The non-quasi static effect is included and so the model predicts the Y parameter values accurately at high frequencies.

01 Jan 2015TL;DR: This paper presents an acceleration based gesture recognition approach with wearable MEMS tri-axial accelerometer, and introduces frame based lookup table for gesture recognition that reduces the hardware complexity but also minimizes the consumption of power by associated circuitry.
Abstract: This paper presents an acceleration based gesture recognition approach with wearable MEMS tri-axial accelerometer. In the application model, we have introduced frame based lookup table for gesture recognition. In accelerometer based gesture recognition concept, sensor data calibration plays an important aspect owing to their erroneous output due to zero-G error. In this work six-point based calibration of the sensor data is presented. The calibrated acceleration data so obtained from the sensor is represented in the form of frame-based signifier, to extract discriminative gesture information. It is observed that this procedure is always advantageous over conventional video image processing based gesture recognition that uses cameras and bulky computational algorithms. Thus, this accelerometer based gesture recognition not only reduces the hardware complexity but also minimizes the consumption of power by associated circuitry. Finally, this study helps us to develop a real time implementation of wearable gesture recognition device.
