TL;DR: In this article, the variation of total lateral pressure with depth against strutted retaining wall from outside the excavation area (active) and below the excavation areas (passive) are investigated numerically for different types of retained soil layer (cohesionless), wall thickness and depth of embedment of the wall.
Abstract: In the present study, the variation of total lateral pressure with depth against strutted retaining wall from outside the excavation area (active) and below the excavation area (passive) are investigated numerically for different types of retained soil layer (cohesionless), wall thickness and depth of embedment of the wall The net lateral earth pressure calculated numerically has been validated against that measured in the model test of a singly propped (strutted) embedded retaining wall The validated numerical model is used to investigate the influence of various factors on the lateral earth pressure It is found that the passive resistance increases with the bulk density of the retained cohesionless soil and the depth of embedment of the retaining wall, but it is independent of the thickness of the wall Moreover, it is inferred that the total active pressure increases with depth of embedment (or total depth) of the wall and decreases with the increase in bulk density of sand Relations betwee

TL;DR: A photonic crystal based band pass filter has been designed to meet ITU-T recommendation G.694.2 for CWDM system, by varying the constitutive materials of the unit cell by incorporating the amalgamation of Si-Ge-x alloy with Silicon Nitride.
Abstract: In this paper a photonic crystal based band pass filter has been designed to meet ITU-T recommendation G.694.2 for CWDM system, by varying the constitutive materials of the unit cell. The amalgamation of Si 1−x Ge x alloy, with Silicon Nitride (Si 3 N 4 ) has been effectively found compatible as primitive layers of unit cells instead of Si/SiO 2 pair. Finally CST MW simulated results have been presented, for comparative purpose, to demonstrate the amenities of Si 1−x Ge x /Si 3 N 4 pair, over Si/SiO 2 pair, as basis of the photonic crystal.

TL;DR: This paper considers identifying the maximum-density axes-parallel region for a set of weighted points in IR for d ≥ 2, and shows that it can be done in O(dn) time.
Abstract: Finding the density of a set of n points, especially where points are in IR or IR, has direct applications in thermal analysis of VLSI chips. In this paper, we consider identifying the maximum-density axes-parallel region for a set of weighted points in IR for d ≥ 2, and show that it can be done in O(dn) time. We also consider finding the minimum-density axes-parallel region, and show that for IR the problem can be solved in O(n) time.

TL;DR: A finite element code is developed using eight-noded curved quadratic isoparametric element for shell with a three noded beam element for stiffener and the formulation is validated through solution of benchmark problems which were earlier solved by other researchers.
Abstract: The free vibration of laminated composite stiffened cylindrical shell panels in the presence of cutout is investigated. A finite element code is developed using eight-noded curved quadratic isoparametric element for shell with a three noded beam element for stiffener and the formulation is validated through solution of benchmark problems which were earlier solved by other researchers. Parametric study is carried out varying the size of the cutouts and their positions with respect to the shell centre for different edge constraints. The results are presented in the form of figures and tables. The results are further analyzed to suggest guidelines to select optimum size and position of the cutout with respect to shell centre considering the different practical constraints.

TL;DR: In this article, a 6DOF parallel manipulator with a moveable frame for three linear and three angular motions has been designed with electrohydraulic actuation for achieving maneuverability of heavy load.
Abstract: A Stewart platform that is a 6-DOF parallel manipulator with a moveable frame for three linear and three angular motions has been designed with electrohydraulic actuation for achieving maneuverability of heavy load. A popular application is the motion simulator for an aircraft or a ship that could be used for training by generating specific motions within the confine of a laboratory. The main contribution of this work is the design and realization of a high-precision simulator with low-cost proportional valves using a simple PI controller for achieving basic motions. A pose-feedback controller has been conceived for the system constructed on the basis of the feedback of the leg lengths and a linearized inverse kinematic model about the neutral position. A number of real-time experiments have shown the design to be quite satisfactory.
