Abstract: Disclosed is a computer network node discovery system (120) that provides a general way of discovering network elements, or nodes (100), connected to a computer network (118), and a specific algorithm for discovering nodes connected to a TCP/IP network, using the SNMP protocol available within the TCP/IP network software. Some nodes on a network, called discovery agents, can convey knowledge of the existence of other nodes on the network. The network discovery system queries these agents and obtains the information they have about other nodes on the network. It then queries each of the nodes obtained to determine if that node is also a discovery agent. In this manner, most of the nodes on a network can be discovered. The process of querying discovery agents to obtain a list of nodes known to the discovery agents is repeated at timed intervals to obtain information about nodes that are not always active. In a TCP/IP network, discovery agents are nodes that respond to queries for an address translation table which translates internet protocol (IP) addresses to physical addresses. The data from each node's address translation table is used to obtain both the IP and the physical address of other nodes on the network. These nodes are then queried to obtain additional information. After all the nodes on a network are discovered, the list of nodes is written to a database where it can be displayed by the network manager or other users of the network.

Abstract: Electronic devices comprising a Langmuir−Blodgett molecular monolayer sandwiched between planar platinum and titanium metal electrodes functioned as switches and tunable resistors over a 102−105 Ω range under current or voltage control. Reversible hysteretic switching and resistance tuning was qualitatively similar for three very different molecular species, indicating a generic switching mechanism dominated by electrode properties or electrode/molecule interfaces, rather than molecule-specific behavior.

Abstract: A network includes plural client processors, a file server and plural printers. Each client processor has memory that stores a printer driver procedure which enables the client processor to interface with at least one printer type. The file server includes memory for storing a most updated printer driver procedure for each printer type coupled to the file server. The file server is responsive to a print request from a client processor to assign a printer to the requesting client processor. The file server then in combination with the client processor determines if a printer driver procedure for the assigned printer in the client processor is identical to a most updated printer driver procedure stored in memory in the file server. If not, the file server enables alteration of the printer driver procedure in the client processor to bring it into coincidence with the most updated print driver procedure. A printer utility is also installed in each client processor and provides the means for automatically determining network status and for indicating to the user whether the network is available or unavailable, and a message indicating the reason for the unavailability.

Abstract: This document serves both as an introduction to CLU and as a language reference manual. Sections 1 through 4 present an overview of the language. These sections highlight the essential features of CLU, and discuss how CLU differs from other, more conventional, languages. Sections 5 though 13 form the reference manual proper. These sections describe each aspect of CLU in detail, and discuss the proper use of various features. Appendices 1 though III provide concise summaries of CLU''s syntax, data types, and I/O facilities. Appendix IV contains example programs.
