TL;DR: In this article, the interactive influence of COB and personal involvement with a product on purchase intention was investigated, and the authors found that COB was found to predict purchase intentions among consumers with a low level of personal involvement in computers.
Abstract: Purpose – Globalization and outsourcing have decoupled country of origin into the country of origin of manufacture (COM) and the country of origin of the brand (COB). This study seeks to extend the work of Gurhan‐Canli and Maheswaran and Lee et al. by investigating the interactive influence of COB and personal involvement with a product on purchase intention.Design/methodology/approach – A total of 168 young adults in Hong Kong were intercepted for mall interviews and presented with mock advertisements for personal computers ostensibly with brands originating in Japan and Korea. Their personal involvement with such products was measured using an instrument designed by Zaichkowsky, and their purchase intentions were self‐assessed.Findings – COB was found to predict purchase intentions among consumers with a low level of personal involvement with computers, but not among consumers with a high level of personal involvement.Research limitations/implications – First, to improve internal validity, the study inv...

TL;DR: This article examined the teaching-related stress, self-efficacy, and occupational commitment of preservice teachers from two culturally western and two culturally eastern countries, and found that teachers' selfefficacy changes the way in which work stress influences the commitment to continue teaching, although cultural milieu influences the nature of the relationship according to context.
Abstract: In this study, we examine the teaching-related stress, self-efficacy, and occupational commitment of preservice teachers from two culturally western and two culturally eastern countries. The sample included 1,187 participants from Canada (n = 379), England (n = 203), Hong Kong (n = 211), and Thailand (n = 394). Self-efficacy partially reduced (mediated) the effect of stress from student behavior and from workload on commitment in three of four contexts. Mediation tests with country as moderator revealed significant differences in the strength of the mediating effect across the four contexts. The results suggest that teachers’ self-efficacy changes the way in which work stress influences the commitment to continue teaching, although cultural milieu influences the nature of the relationship according to context.

TL;DR: In this paper, a research model was proposed to capture both extrinsic (e.g., perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use) and intrinsic motivators as well as perceived media richness to explain user intention to use multimedia messaging services.
Abstract: Multimedia Messaging Services (MMS) is a new medium that enriches people's personal communication with their business partners, friends, or family. Following the success of Short Message Services, MMS has the potential to be the next mobile commerce “killer application” which is useful and popular among consumers; however, little is known about why people intend to accept and use it. Building upon the motivational theory and media richness theory, the research model captures both extrinsic (e.g., perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use) and intrinsic (e.g., perceived enjoyment) motivators as well as perceived media richness to explain user intention to use MMS. An online survey was conducted and 207 completed questionnaires were collected. By integrating the motivation and the media richness perspectives, the research model explains 65p of the variance. In addition, the results present strong support to the existing theoretical links as well as to those newly hypothesized in this study. Implications from the current investigation for research and practice are provided. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors considered spontaneous emission in a four-level atomic system driven by three fields and showed that by controlling the phase and amplitude of the driving fields a wide variety of spectral behavior can be obtained, ranging from a very narrow single spectral line to up to six spectral of varying widths.
Abstract: We consider spontaneous emission in a four-level atomic system driven by three fields. It is shown that by controlling the phase and the amplitude of the driving fields a wide variety of spectral behavior can be obtained, ranging from a very narrow single spectral line to up to six spectral of varying widths.
