TL;DR: Results indicate that treatment with low concentrations of ABA induced an antioxidative defence response against oxidative damage, but a high concentration of A BA induced an excessive generation of AOS and led to an oxidative damage in plant cells.
Abstract: Leaves of maize (Zea mays L.) seedlings were supplied with different concentrations of abscisic acid (ABA). Its effects on the levels of superoxide radical (O(2)(-)), hydrogen peroxide (H(2)O(2)) and the content of catalytic Fe, the activities of several antioxidative enzymes such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), ascorbate peroxidase (APX) and glutathione reductase (GR), the contents of several non-enzymatic antioxidants such as ascorbate (ASC), reduced glutathione (GSH), alpha-tocopherol (alpha-TOC) and carotenoid (CAR), and the degrees of the oxidative damage to the membrane lipids and proteins were examined. Treatment with 10 and 100 microM ABA significantly increased the levels of O(2)(-) and H(2)O(2), followed by an increase in activities of SOD, CAT, APX and GR, and the contents of ASC, GSH, alpha-TOC and CAR in a dose- and time-dependent pattern in leaves of maize seedlings. An oxidative damage expressed as lipid peroxidation, protein oxidation, and plasma membrane leakage did not occur except for a slight increase with 100 microM ABA treatment for 24 h. Treatment with 1,000 microM ABA led to a more abundant generation of O(2)(-) and H(2)O(2) and a significant increase in the content of catalytic Fe, which is critical for H(2)O(2)-dependent hydroxyl radical production. The activities of these antioxidative enzymes and the contents of alpha-TOC and CAR were still maintained at a higher level, but no longer further enhanced when compared with the treatment of 100 microM ABA. The contents of ASC and GSH had no changes in leaves treated with 1,000 microM ABA. These results indicate that treatment with low concentrations of ABA (10 to 100 microM) induced an antioxidative defence response against oxidative damage, but a high concentration of ABA (1,000 microM) induced an excessive generation of AOS and led to an oxidative damage in plant cells.

TL;DR: This optimised polymer semiconductor represents a significant progress in semiconductor development, dispelling prevalent skepticism surrounding practical usability of organic semiconductors for high-performance microelectronic devices, opening up application opportunities hitherto functionally or economically inaccessible with silicon technologies, and providing an excellent structural framework for fundamental studies of charge transport in organic systems.
Abstract: Microelectronic circuits/arrays produced via high-speed printing instead of traditional photolithographic processes offer an appealing approach to creating the long-sought after, low-cost, large-area flexible electronics. Foremost among critical enablers to propel this paradigm shift in manufacturing is a stable, solution-processable, high-performance semiconductor for printing functionally capable thin-film transistors — fundamental building blocks of microelectronics. We report herein the processing and optimisation of solution-processable polymer semiconductors for thin-film transistors, demonstrating very high field-effect mobility, high on/off ratio, and excellent shelf-life and operating stabilities under ambient conditions. Exceptionally high-gain inverters and functional ring oscillator devices on flexible substrates have been demonstrated. This optimised polymer semiconductor represents a significant progress in semiconductor development, dispelling prevalent skepticism surrounding practical usability of organic semiconductors for high-performance microelectronic devices, opening up application opportunities hitherto functionally or economically inaccessible with silicon technologies, and providing an excellent structural framework for fundamental studies of charge transport in organic systems.

TL;DR: It is shown that UD's have many desirable properties for a wide variety of applications and the global optimization algorithm, threshold accepting, is used to generate UD's with low discrepancy.
Abstract: A uniform design (UD) seeks design points that are uniformly scattered on the domain. It has been popular since 1980. A survey of UD is given in the first portion: The fundamental idea and construction method are presented and discussed and examples are given for illustration. It is shown that UD's have many desirable properties for a wide variety of applications. Furthermore, we use the global optimization algorithm, threshold accepting, to generate UD's with low discrepancy. The relationship between uniformity and orthogonality is investigated. It turns out that most UD's obtained here are indeed orthogonal.

TL;DR: Water stress-induced ABA accumulation triggers the increased generation of ROS, which, in turn, leads to the up-regulation of the antioxidant defence system.
Abstract: The interrelationship among water-stress-induced abscisic acid (ABA) accumulation, the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and the activities of several antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), and glutathione reductase (GR) was investigated in leaves of detached maize (Zea mays L.) plants exposed to -0.7 MPa water stress induced by polyethylene glycol (PEG 6000). Time-course analyses of ABA content, the production of ROS, and the activities of antioxidant enzymes in water-stressed leaves showed that a significant increase in the content of ABA preceded that of ROS, which was followed by a marked increase in the activities of these antioxidant enzymes. Pretreatment with an ABA biosynthesis inhibitor, tungstate, significantly suppressed the accumulation of ABA, and also reduced the increased generation of ROS and the up-regulation of these antioxidant enzymes in water-stressed leaves. A mild oxidative stress induced by paraquat, which generates O - 2 and then H 2 O 2 , resulted In a significant enhancement in the activities of antioxidant enzymes in non-water-stressed leaves. Pretreatment with some ROS scavengers, such as Tiron and dimethylthiourea (DMTU), and an inhibitor of NAD(P)H oxidase, diphenyleneiodonium (DPI), almost completely arrested the increase In ROS and the activities of these antioxidant enzymes induced by water stress or ABA treatment. These data suggest that water stress-Induced ABA accumulation triggers the increased generation of ROS, which, In turn, leads to the up-regulation of the antioxidant defence system.

TL;DR: A comprehensive and up-to-date review of the state-of-the-art (SOTA) in AutoML methods according to the pipeline, covering data preparation, feature engineering, hyperparameter optimization, and neural architecture search (NAS).
Abstract: Deep learning (DL) techniques have obtained remarkable achievements on various tasks, such as image recognition, object detection, and language modeling. However, building a high-quality DL system for a specific task highly relies on human expertise, hindering its wide application. Meanwhile, automated machine learning (AutoML) is a promising solution for building a DL system without human assistance and is being extensively studied. This paper presents a comprehensive and up-to-date review of the state-of-the-art (SOTA) in AutoML. According to the DL pipeline, we introduce AutoML methods – covering data preparation, feature engineering, hyperparameter optimization, and neural architecture search (NAS) – with a particular focus on NAS, as it is currently a hot sub-topic of AutoML. We summarize the representative NAS algorithms’ performance on the CIFAR-10 and ImageNet datasets and further discuss the following subjects of NAS methods: one/two-stage NAS, one-shot NAS, joint hyperparameter and architecture optimization, and resource-aware NAS. Finally, we discuss some open problems related to the existing AutoML methods for future research.
