TL;DR: A heuristic algorithm is developed which can provide a feasible solution based on individual optimal query plans and map the materialized view design problem as O-l integer programming problem, whose solution can guarantee an optimal solution.
Abstract: Selecting views to materialize is one of the most important decisions in designing a data warehouse. In this paper, we present a framework for analyzing the issues in selecting views to materialize so as to achieve the best combination of good query performance and low view maintenance. We first develop a heuristic algorithm which can provide a feasible solution based on individual optimal query plans. We also map the materialized view design problem as O-l integer programming problem, whose solution can guarantee an optimal solution.

TL;DR: In this paper, the pore structure in HSC and NSC was investigated and it was shown that HSC lost its mechanical strength in a manner similar to that of NSC.
Abstract: Based on normal strength concrete (NSC) and high-strength concrete (HSC), with compressive strengths of 39, 76, and 94 MPa respectively, damage to concrete under high temperatures was identified. After exposure to temperatures up to 1200 °C, compressive strength and tensile splitting strength were determined. The pore structure in HSC and in NSC was also investigated. Results show that HSC lost its mechanical strength in a manner similar to that of NSC. The range between 400 and 800 °C was critical to the strength loss. High temperatures have a coarsening effect on the microstructure of both HSC and NSC. On the whole HSC and NSC suffered damage to almost the same degree, although HSC appeared to suffer a greater worsening of the permeability-related durability.

TL;DR: Transferrin has been widely applied as a targeting ligand in the active targeting of anticancer agents, proteins, and genes to primary proliferating malignant cells that overexpress transferrin receptors as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: Since transferrin was discovered more than half a century ago, a considerable effort has been made towards understanding tranferrin-mediated iron uptake. However, it was not until recently with the identification and characterization of several new genes related to iron homeostasis, such as the hemochromatosis protein HFE and the iron transporter DMT1, that our knowledge has been advanced dramatically. A major pathway for cellular iron uptake is through internalization of the complex of iron-bound transferrin and the transferrin receptor, which is negatively modulated by HFE, a protein related to hereditary hemochromatosis. Iron is released from transferrin as the result of the acidic pH in endosome and then is transported to the cytosol by DMT1. The iron is then utilized as a cofactor by heme and ribonucleotide reductase or stored in ferritin. Apart from iron, many other metal ions of therapeutic and diagnostic interests can also bind to transferrin at the iron sites and their transferrin complexes can be recognized by many cells. Therefore, transferrin has been thought as a "delivery system" for many beneficial and harmful metal ions into the cells. Transferrin has also be widely applied as a targeting ligand in the active targeting of anticancer agents, proteins, and genes to primary proliferating malignant cells that overexpress transferrin receptors. This is achieved by conjugation of transferrin with drugs, proteins, hybride systems with marcomolecules and as liposomal-coated systems. Conjugates of anticancer drugs with transferrin can significantly improve the selectivity and toxicity and overcome drug resistance, thereby leading to a better treatment. The coupling of DNA to transferrin via a polycation such as polylysine or via cationic liposomes can target and transfer of the extrogenous DNA particularly into proliferating cells through receptor-mediated endocytosis. These kinds of non-viral vectors are potential alternatives to viral vectors for gene therapy, if the transfection efficiency can be improved. Moreover, transferrin receptors have shown potentials in delivery of therapeutic drugs or genes into the brain across blood-brain barrier.

TL;DR: High-frequency dynamic micropillar tests have been used to probe both atomic clusters and flow defects in metallic glasses, showing that loosely bonded atomistic free-volume zones that are enveloped elastically by tightly bonded atomic clusters show a deformation character similar to supercooled liquids.
Abstract: The amorphous nature of metallic glasses and their mechanical properties make them interesting for structural applications. However, the interplay between the nature of atomic structures in metallic glasses and mechanical properties remains poorly understood. In this study, high-frequency dynamic micropillar tests have been used to probe both atomic clusters and flow defects in metallic glasses. We show that loosely bonded atomistic free-volume zones that are enveloped elastically by tightly bonded atomic clusters show a deformation character similar to supercooled liquids. At room temperature, the effective viscosity of these free-volume zones is of the order of 1 x 10(8) Pa s before the occurrence of shear banding. The confined liquid-like deformation of free-volume zones leads to significant mechanical hysteresis in micropillars under dynamic loading, providing important insight into how atomistic structural features affect the deformation behaviours in metallic glasses in the apparent elastic regime. The inelastic behaviour also serves as the basis for the superior damping resistance of metallic glasses.
