Abstract: This article systematically investigates the inverse Gaussian (IG) process as an effective degradation model. The IG process is shown to be a limiting compound Poisson process, which gives it a meaningful physical interpretation for modeling degradation of products deteriorating in random environments. Treated as the first passage process of a Wiener process, the IG process is flexible in incorporating random effects and explanatory variables that account for heterogeneities commonly observed in degradation problems. This flexibility makes the class of IG process models much more attractive compared with the Gamma process, which has been thoroughly investigated in the literature of degradation modeling. The article also discusses statistical inference for three random effects models and model selection. It concludes with a real world example to demonstrate the applicability of the IG process in degradation analysis. Supplementary materials for this article are available online.

Abstract: Excellent thermoelectric performance is obtained over a broad temperature range from 300 K to 800 K by doping single crystals of SnSe. The average value of the figure of merit ZT, of more than 1.17, is measured from 300 K to 800 K along the crystallographic b-axis of 3 at% Na-doped SnSe, with the maximum ZT reaching a value of 2 at 800 K. The room temperature value of the power factor for the same sample and in the same direction is 2.8 mW mK−2, which is an order of magnitude higher than that of the undoped crystal. Calculations show that Na doping lowers the Fermi level and increases the number of carrier pockets in SnSe, leading to a collaborative optimization of the Seebeck coefficient and the electrical conductivity. The resultant optimized carrier concentration and the increased number of carrier pockets near the Fermi level in Na-doped samples are believed to be the key factors behind the spectacular enhancement of the average ZT.

Abstract: This study examines various factors associated with the adoption of e-procurement. A survey questionnaire was administered to collect data from 141 companies in Singapore. Using logistic regression analysis, we found that firm size, top management support, perceived indirect benefits, and business partner influence are positively and significantly associated with the adoption of e-procurement. Further, industry type does not show any relationship with e-procurement adoption. Implications of our results are discussed.

Abstract: This paper tests further a cultural tourism typology based on the interface between centrality of cultural tourism as a trip motive and the depth of experience. Five types of cultural tourist are identified that represent five benefit-based segments. The segments are tested against a variety of trip, demographic, motivational, preferred activity, awareness, cultural distance and activity variables. Significant differences are noted between the groups, suggesting that the model presented may be effective in segmenting the cultural tourism market. Moreover, although the segmentation process is predicated on two variables, these variables are reflective of underlying trip motivation, activity preference and cultural distance factors noted between the different types of cultural tourist.
