TL;DR: In situ/operando characterization techniques provide information on the structure evolution, redox mechanism, solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI) formation, side reactions, and Li-ion transport properties under operating conditions under realistic operation conditions.
Abstract: The increasing demands of energy storage require the significant improvement of current Li-ion battery electrode materials and the development of advanced electrode materials. Thus, it is necessary to gain an in-depth understanding of the reaction processes, degradation mechanism, and thermal decomposition mechanisms under realistic operation conditions. This understanding can be obtained by in situ/operando characterization techniques, which provide information on the structure evolution, redox mechanism, solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI) formation, side reactions, and Li-ion transport properties under operating conditions. Here, the recent developments in the in situ/operando techniques employed for the investigation of the structural stability, dynamic properties, chemical environment changes, and morphological evolution are described and summarized. The experimental approaches reviewed here include X-ray, electron, neutron, optical, and scanning probes. The experimental methods and operating principles, especially the in situ cell designs, are described in detail. Representative studies of the in situ/operando techniques are summarized, and finally the major current challenges and future opportunities are discussed. Several important battery challenges are likely to benefit from these in situ/operando techniques, including the inhomogeneous reactions of high-energy-density cathodes, the development of safe and reversible Li metal plating, and the development of stable SEI.

TL;DR: A data model to augment uncertainty to location data is suggested, and imprecise queries that hide the location of the query issuer and yields probabilistic results are proposed that investigate the evaluation and quality aspects for a range query.
Abstract: Location-based services, such as finding the nearest gas station, require users to supply their location information. However, a user's location can be tracked without her consent or knowledge. Lowering the spatial and temporal resolution of location data sent to the server has been proposed as a solution. Although this technique is effective in protecting privacy, it may be overkill and the quality of desired services can be severely affected. In this paper, we suggest a framework where uncertainty can be controlled to provide high quality and privacy-preserving services, and investigate how such a framework can be realized in the GPS and cellular network systems. Based on this framework, we suggest a data model to augment uncertainty to location data, and propose imprecise queries that hide the location of the query issuer and yields probabilistic results. We investigate the evaluation and quality aspects for a range query. We also provide novel methods to protect our solutions against trajectory-tracing. Experiments are conducted to examine the effectiveness of our approaches.

TL;DR: A highly polarization-sensitive, broadband, self-powered photodetector based on graphene/PdSe2/germanium heterojunction with an ultrahigh polarization sensitivity of 112.2 is achieved, which represents the best result for 2D layered material-based photodtectors.
Abstract: Polarization-sensitive photodetection in a broad spectrum range is highly desired due to the great significance in military and civilian applications. Palladium diselenide (PdSe2), a newly explored air-stable, group 10 two-dimensional (2D) noble metal dichalcogenide with a puckered pentagonal structure, holds promise for polarization-sensitive photodetection. Herein, we report a highly polarization-sensitive, broadband, self-powered photodetector based on graphene/PdSe2/germanium heterojunction. Owing to the enhanced light absorption of the mixed-dimensional van der Waals heterojunction and the effective carrier collection with graphene transparent electrode, the photodetector exhibits superior device performance in terms of a large photoresponsivity, a high specific detectivity, a fast response speed to follow nanosecond pulsed light signal, and a broadband photosensitivity ranging from deep ultraviolet (DUV) to mid-infrared (MIR). Significantly, highly polarization-sensitive broadband photodetection with an ultrahigh polarization sensitivity of 112.2 is achieved, which represents the best result for 2D layered material-based photodetectors. Further, we demonstrated the high-resolution polarization imaging based on the heterojunction device. This work reveals the great potential of 2D PdSe2 for high-performance, air-stable, and polarization-sensitive broadband photodetectors.
