TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a three-phase pilot-based channel estimation framework for IRS-assisted uplink multiuser communications, in which the user-BS direct channels and the users-IRS-BS reflected channels of a typical user were estimated in Phase I and Phase II, respectively, while the users reflected channels were estimated with low overhead in Phase III via leveraging their strong correlation with those of the typical user under the case without receiver noise at the BS.
Abstract: In intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) assisted communication systems, the acquisition of channel state information is a crucial impediment for achieving the beamforming gain of IRS because of the considerable overhead required for channel estimation Specifically, under the current beamforming design for IRS-assisted communications, in total $KMN+KM$ channel coefficients should be estimated, where $K$ , $N$ and $M$ denote the numbers of users, IRS reflecting elements, and antennas at the base station (BS), respectively For the first time in the literature, this paper points out that despite the vast number of channel coefficients that should be estimated, significant redundancy exists in the user-IRS-BS reflected channels of different users arising from the fact that each IRS element reflects the signals from all the users to the BS via the same channel To utilize this redundancy for reducing the channel estimation time, we propose a novel three-phase pilot-based channel estimation framework for IRS-assisted uplink multiuser communications, in which the user-BS direct channels and the user-IRS-BS reflected channels of a typical user are estimated in Phase I and Phase II, respectively, while the user-IRS-BS reflected channels of the other users are estimated with low overhead in Phase III via leveraging their strong correlation with those of the typical user Under this framework, we analytically prove that a time duration consisting of $K+N+\max (K-1,\lceil (K-1)N/M \rceil)$ pilot symbols is sufficient for perfectly recovering all the $KMN+KM$ channel coefficients under the case without receiver noise at the BS Further, under the case with receiver noise, the user pilot sequences, IRS reflecting coefficients, and BS linear minimum mean-squared error channel estimators are characterized in closed-form

TL;DR: A converter consisting of two interleaved and intercoupled boost converter cells is proposed and investigated, which has very good current sharing characteristics even in the presence of relatively large duty cycle mismatch.
Abstract: Boost converters are widely used as power-factor corrected preregulators In high-power applications, interleaved operation of two or more boost converters has been proposed to increase the output power and to reduce the output ripple A major design criterion then is to ensure equal current sharing among the parallel converters In this paper, a converter consisting of two interleaved and intercoupled boost converter cells is proposed and investigated The boost converter cells have very good current sharing characteristics even in the presence of relatively large duty cycle mismatch In addition, it can be designed to have small input current ripple and zero boost-rectifier reverse-recovery loss The operating principle, steady-state analysis, and comparison with the conventional boost converter are presented Simulation and experimental results are also given

TL;DR: In this paper, a brief overview on the architecture and functional modules of smart HEMS is presented, and various home appliance scheduling strategies to reduce the residential electricity cost and improve the energy efficiency from power generation utilities are also investigated.
Abstract: With the arrival of smart grid era and the advent of advanced communication and information infrastructures, bidirectional communication, advanced metering infrastructure, energy storage systems and home area networks would revolutionize the patterns of electricity usage and energy conservation at the consumption premises. Coupled with the emergence of vehicle-to-grid technologies and massive distributed renewable energy, there is a profound transition for the energy management pattern from the conventional centralized infrastructure towards the autonomous responsive demand and cyber-physical energy systems with renewable and stored energy sources. Under the sustainable smart grid paradigm, the smart house with its home energy management system (HEMS) plays an important role to improve the efficiency, economics, reliability, and energy conservation for distribution systems. In this paper, a brief overview on the architecture and functional modules of smart HEMS is presented. Then, the advanced HEMS infrastructures and home appliances in smart houses are thoroughly analyzed and reviewed. Furthermore, the utilization of various building renewable energy resources in HEMS, including solar, wind, biomass and geothermal energies, is surveyed. Lastly, various home appliance scheduling strategies to reduce the residential electricity cost and improve the energy efficiency from power generation utilities are also investigated.
