TL;DR: A recursive procedure of calculating the discriminant features of Fisher linear discriminant is suggested in this paper, in which the resulting improvement of the performances by the new feature extraction scheme is significant.
Abstract: Fisher linear discriminant (FLD) has recently emerged as a more efficient approach for extracting features for many pattern classification problems as compared to traditional principal component analysis. However, the constraint on the total number of features available from FLD has seriously limited its application to a large class of problems. In order to overcome this disadvantage, a recursive procedure of calculating the discriminant features is suggested in this paper. The new algorithm incorporates the same fundamental idea behind FLD of seeking the projection that best separates the data corresponding to different classes, while in contrast to FLD the number of features that may be derived is independent of the number of the classes to be recognized. Extensive experiments of comparing the new algorithm with the traditional approaches have been carried out on face recognition problem with the Yale database, in which the resulting improvement of the performances by the new feature extraction scheme is significant

TL;DR: A robust automatic white balance algorithm is proposed in this paper, using extracting gray color points in images for color temperature estimation and has the advantage of easy realization, low complexity and robust convergence.
Abstract: A robust automatic white balance algorithm is proposed in this paper, using extracting gray color points in images for color temperature estimation. A gray color point is the point where R, G and B components are equivalent under the canonical light source. A little color deviation of the gray color point from gray under different color temperature is used to estimate the color temperature of the light source. The test results show that the proposed algorithm can provide a good perceive effect and has the advantage of easy realization, low complexity and robust convergence.

TL;DR: In this article, a server at the network side analyzes local security correlation information collected and reported by terminal devices, and determines a security strategy according to the result of the analysis.
Abstract: This invention provides a method and system for network security control. A server at the network side analyzes local security correlation information collected and reported by terminal devices, and determines a security strategy according to the result of the analysis. Since correlative reacting between the network side and the terminal side is implemented and the security strategy is established according to the information from the terminal devices, threats against security from a terminal device can be resisted from the beginning. A relative large number of information sources can be taken into account when determining the security strategy such that the determined security strategy is more reasonable and accurate. Furthermore, a differential security service can be provided for terminal devices with different subscriber levels. This invention also provides a method and system for preventing junk mails based on the concept of correlative reacting between a terminal and a server.

TL;DR: Prefix searches for directing internet data packets are performed in a prefix search integrated circuit as mentioned in this paper, which includes an array of search engines, each of which accesses the prefix search tree data structure to process prefix search.
Abstract: Prefix searches for directing internet data packets are performed in a prefix search integrated circuit. The integrated circuit includes an array of search engines, each of which accesses a prefix search tree data structure to process a prefix search. An SDRAM is dedicated to each search engine, and SDRAMs share address and control pins to plural search engines on the IC chip. Internal nodes of the tree data structure are duplicated across banks of the SDRAMs to increase bandwidth, and leaf nodes are stored across the SDRAM banks to reduce storage requirements. Within each search engine, data stored in a data register from an SDRAM is compared to a prefix search key stored in a key register. Based on that comparison, an address is calculated to access further tree structure data from the SDRAM. Packet descriptors containing search keys are forwarded to the search engines from an input queue and the search results are forwarded to an output queue, the same packet order being maintained in the two queues.

Abstract: Disclosed is a handoff method connected with resource allocation in order to prevent QoS degradation, which may occur during or before/after a handoff on account of channel state change resulting from the mobility of a radio communication apparatus. To this end, a serving base station currently-connected to the radio communication apparatus and a target base station to be connected after a handoff periodically or non-periodically measure uplink/downlink channel states in relation to the radio communication apparatus, and the target base station allocates resources (e.g., time slot, specific subcarrier, or specific frequency band) most suitable for the service requested from the radio communication apparatus during a handoff, thereby preventing QoS degradation due to the handoff. In addition, in the case of a radio communication apparatus using multiple antennas, the serving base station notifies the target base station of a multi-antenna operation mode in relation to the radio communication apparatus before finishing a handoff procedure, thereby minimizing QoS degradation due to the handoff.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method for measuring multimedia communication quality through the embedding and extraction of digital watermark under a precondition that the quality of the multimedia video data is not obviously affected.
Abstract: A method for measuring multimedia communication quality is disclosed. The multimedia video communication quality may be objectively reflected through the embedment and extraction of digital watermark under a precondition that the quality of the multimedia video data is not obviously affected. In the invention, each frame of the multimedia video data is uniformly divided into blocks of equal size and watermark data is embedded in each of the blocks, so that the watermark may be uniformly distributed. The multimedia video data are divided into groups, and the watermark is embedded in a part of the frames with equal interval between the frames in each group to reduce the effect of the watermark on the data. The watermark information is directly embedded in the spatial domain of the original video data. The PSNR of the video data is linearly fitted using the accuracy rate of the recovered watermark relative to the original watermark, and the fitted PSNR is regarded as a measurement indication of the multimedia video communication quality. Post-processing such as smoothing filtering is performed on video frames after watermark extraction to eliminate the effect of the watermark on the multimedia video data quality.

TL;DR: The proposed concatenated zigzag Hadamard (ZH) codes offer similar performance as another class of low-rate codes-the turbo-Hadamard codes, and better performance than superorthogonal turbo codes, with much lower encoding and decoding complexities.
Abstract: In this correspondence, we introduce a new class of low-rate error correction codes called zigzag Hadamard (ZH) codes and their concatenation schemes. Each member of this class of codes is specified by a highly structured zigzag graph with each segment being a Hadamard codeword. The ZH codes enjoy extremely simple encoding and very low-complexity soft-input-soft-output (SISO) decoding based on a posteriori probability (APP) fast Hadamard transform (FHT) technique. We present an asymptotic performance analysis of the proposed concatenated ZH codes using the extrinsic mutual information transfer (EXIT) chart for infinite-length codes. We also provide a union bound analysis of the error performance for finite-length codes. Furthermore, the concatenated ZH codes are shown to be a good class of codes in the low-rate region. Specifically, a rate-0.0107 concatenated code with three ZH components and an interleaver size of 65536 can achieve the bit error rate (BER) performance of 10/sup -5/ at -1.15dB, which is only 0.44 dB away from the ultimate Shannon limit. The proposed concatenated ZH codes offer similar performance as another class of low-rate codes-the turbo-Hadamard codes, and better performance than superorthogonal turbo codes, with much lower encoding and decoding complexities.
