Abstract: This tutorial paper focuses on the variants of the bottleneck problem taking an information theoretic perspective and discusses practical methods to solve it, as well as its connection to coding and learning aspects. The intimate connections of this setting to remote source-coding under logarithmic loss distortion measure, information combining, common reconstruction, the Wyner–Ahlswede–Korner problem, the efficiency of investment information, as well as, generalization, variational inference, representation learning, autoencoders, and others are highlighted. We discuss its extension to the distributed information bottleneck problem with emphasis on the Gaussian model and highlight the basic connections to the uplink Cloud Radio Access Networks (CRAN) with oblivious processing. For this model, the optimal trade-offs between relevance (i.e., information) and complexity (i.e., rates) in the discrete and vector Gaussian frameworks is determined. In the concluding outlook, some interesting problems are mentioned such as the characterization of the optimal inputs (“features”) distributions under power limitations maximizing the “relevance” for the Gaussian information bottleneck, under “complexity” constraints.

TL;DR: In this article, a processor acquires an operation instruction, where the operation instruction instructs the processor to access the PCIe endpoint device through the access proxy, and send an access request to the access proxies according to the instruction.
Abstract: A computer system and a method are provided for accessing a peripheral component interconnect express (PCIe) endpoint device. The computer system includes a processor, a PCIe bus, and an access proxy. The access proxy connects to the processor and the PCIe endpoint device; the processor acquires an operation instruction, where the operation instruction instructs the processor to access the PCIe endpoint device through the access proxy, and send an access request to the access proxy according to the operation instruction; and the access proxy sends a response message of the access request to the processor after receiving the access request sent by the processor. Because the processor does not directly access the PCIe endpoint device to be accessed but completes access through the access proxy, thereby avoiding a machine check exception (MCE) reset for the processor.

TL;DR: The results prove the feasibility of the integration of the developed continuous variables (CV) quantum key distribution (QKD) system with legacy telecom equipment in existing WDM optical networks.
Abstract: In this letter, we report on the advances toward the integration of our developed continuous variables (CV) quantum key distribution (QKD) system in existing optical infrastructure and wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) networks. First, we investigate the tolerance of the CV-QKD system to spontaneous Raman scattering (SRS) noise, the latter being the most dominant impairment in a WDM co-existence environment for QKD. In particular, we investigate by experiment the impact of a WDM 10 × 10 Gb/s ON-OFF-keying signal in terms of induced SRS noise in the QKD channel. The spontaneous SRS noise influence is assessed for different transmission scenarios, i.e., for various optical launch powers of the WDM signal, and for different transmission links of 20, 40, 60, and 80 km. Based on the experimental data and on the measured system's parameters, we estimate the key rates and reach capabilities of the proposed CV-QKD system. The scheme supports a key rate of 90 kbit/s over 20 km, for an ideal QKD system multiplexed with 2-mW optical power. A step further, we demonstrate for first time the use of the aforementioned CV-QKD system to encrypt a 10GE client service over deployable optical transport network legacy equipment over 20 km. Our results prove the feasibility of the integration of our proposed scheme with legacy telecom equipment in existing WDM optical networks.

TL;DR: A novel Blockchain-driven design to reshape the business logic of SCF to develop an efficient and reliable financing platform for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the auto retail industry to decrease the cost of financing and speed up the cash flows is proposed.
Abstract: In this paper, a Blockchain-driven platform for supply chain finance, BCautoSCF (Zhi-lian-che-rong in Chinese), is introduced. It is successfully established as a reliable and efficient financing platform for the auto retail industry. Due to the Blockchain built-in trust mechanism, participants in the supply chain (SC) networks work extensively and transparently to run a reliable, convenient, and traceable business. Likewise, the traditional supply chain finance (SCF), partial automation of SCF workflows with fewer human errors and disruptions was achieved through smart contract in BCautoSCF. Such open and secure features suggest the feasibility of BCautoSCF in SCF. As the first Blockchain-driven SCF application for the auto retail industry in China, our contribution lies in studying these pain points existing in traditional SCF and proposing a novel Blockchain-driven design to reshape the business logic of SCF to develop an efficient and reliable financing platform for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the auto retail industry to decrease the cost of financing and speed up the cash flows. Currently, there are over 600 active enterprise users that adopt BCautoSCF to run their financing business. Up to October 2019, the BCautoSCF provides services to 449 online/offline auto retailors, three B2B asset exchange platforms, nine fund providers, and 78 logistic services across 21 provinces in China. There are 3296 financing transactions successfully completed in BCautoSCF, and the amount of financing is ¥566,784,802.18. In the future, we will work towards supporting a full automation of SCF workflow by smart contracts, so that the efficiency of transaction will be further improved.

TL;DR: In this paper, detection timing and channel selection for periodic spectrum sensing are investigated to improve the performance of cognitive radio (CR) users under a given level of interference with licensed users, the detection timing scheme utilizes the statistics of the licensed channel occupancy to determine the optimal starting point of each sensing action.
Abstract: In this paper, detection timing and channel selection for periodic spectrum sensing are investigated to improve the performance of cognitive radio (CR) users. Designed to maximize the channel efficiency of CR users under a given level of interference with licensed users, the detection timing scheme utilizes the statistics of the licensed channel occupancy to determine the optimal starting point of each sensing action. A channel selection scheme in the multichannel multiuser environment is also proposed to specify which channel to detect for the upcoming sensing action based on detection timing. Numerical results demonstrate that our schemes considerably improve the overall channel efficiency while protecting the communication among licensed users.
