TL;DR: In this article, the authors present an overview of different physical and medium access techniques to address the problem of a massive number of access attempts in mMTC and discuss the protocol performance of these solutions in a common evaluation framework.
Abstract: The fifth generation of cellular communication systems is foreseen to enable a multitude of new applications and use cases with very different requirements. A new 5G multi-service air interface needs to enhance broadband performance as well as provide new levels of reliability, latency, and supported number of users. In this paper, we focus on the massive Machine Type Communications (mMTC) service within a multi-service air interface. Specifically, we present an overview of different physical and medium access techniques to address the problem of a massive number of access attempts in mMTC and discuss the protocol performance of these solutions in a common evaluation framework.

TL;DR: An overview of the opportunities and challenges in THz communications for vehicular networks is provided and the papers in this Special Section which provide first-time solutions to some of these challenges, are introduced.
Abstract: With the never-ending increase in the number of mobile connected devices and the need for higher data rates anywhere, anytime, higher frequency bands are being considered for communications. As millimeter-wave technology moves from research to commercial deployments, and motivated by the still limited bandwidth, the terahertz (THz) band is envisioned as the next frontier for communications. When it comes to vehicular networks, communication at much higher frequencies and, consequently, with much higher data rates brings many exciting opportunities as well as challenges. In this paper, an overview of the opportunities and challenges in THz communications for vehicular networks is provided. In addition, the papers in this Special Section which provide first-time solutions to some of these challenges, are introduced.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors explored the consumer choice behavior for green products in Pakistan using the theory of consumption values and found that functional value (price and quality), social value, conditional value, epistemic value, and emotional value moderated the impact of other consumption values on green product consumer choice behaviour.

TL;DR: This work sets up the problem of minimizing inter-cloud traffic and response time in a multi-cloud scenario as an ILP optimization problem, along with important constraints such as total deployment costs and service level agreements (SLAs) and considers link delays and computational delays in the model.

TL;DR: The struggles of designing a family of polar codes able to satisfy the demands of 5G systems are illustrated, with particular attention to rate flexibility and low decoding latency.
Abstract: Polar codes have attracted the attention of academia and industry alike in the past decade, such that the $5^{\mathrm {th}}$ generation wireless systems (5G) standardization process of the $3^{\mathrm {rd}}$ generation partnership project (3GPP) chose polar codes as a channel coding scheme. In this tutorial, we provide a description of the encoding process of polar codes adopted by the 5G standard. We illustrate the struggles of designing a family of polar codes able to satisfy the demands of 5G systems, with particular attention to rate flexibility and low decoding latency. The result of these efforts is an elaborate framework that applies novel coding techniques to provide a solid channel code for NR requirements.
