Abstract: MXenes, an emerging family of 2D transition metal carbides and nitrides, have shown promise in various applications, such as energy storage, electromagnetic interference shielding, conductive thin films, photonics, and photothermal therapy. Their metallic nature, wide range of optical absorption, and tunable surface chemistry are the key to their success in those applications. The physical properties of MXenes are known to be strongly dependent on their surface terminations. In this study, we investigated the electronic properties of Ti3C2Tx for different surface terminations, as achieved by different annealing temperatures, with the help of photoelectron spectroscopy, inverse photoelectron spectroscopy, and density functional theory calculations. We find that fluorine occupies solely the face-centered cubic adsorption site, whereas oxygen initially occupies at least two different adsorption sites, followed by a rearrangement after fluorine desorption at high annealing temperatures. Abstract: PURPOSETo identify prognostic variables for response and survival in male patients with relapsed or refractory germ cell tumors treated with high-dose chemotherapy (HDCT) and hematopoietic progenitor cell support.PATIENTS AND METHODSThree hundred ten patients treated with HDCT at four centers in the United States and Europe were retrospectively evaluated. Univariate and multivariate analysis of patient, disease, and treatment characteristics were used for comparisons of response rates and failure-free survival (FFS).RESULTSThe actuarial FFS rate was 32% at 1, 30% at 2, and 29% at 3 years. Multivariate analysis identified progressive disease before HDCT, mediastinal nonseminomatous primary tumor, refractory or absolute refractory disease to conventional-dose cisplatin, and human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) levels greater than 1,000 U/L before HDCT as independent adverse prognostic variables for FFS after HDCT. Abstract: We propose the realized systemic risk beta as a measure of financial companies' contribution to systemic risk, given network interdependence between firms' tail risk exposures. Conditional on statistically pre-identified network spillover effects and market and balance sheet information, we define the realized systemic risk beta as the total time-varying marginal effect of a firm's Value-at-risk (VaR) on the system's VaR. Statistical inference reveals a multitude of relevant risk spillover channels and determines companies' systemic importance in the US financial system. Our approach can be used to monitor companies' systemic importance, enabling transparent macroprudential supervision.
