TL;DR: In this review, the recent advances of the application of 4CzIPN as a photoredox catalyst in the past three years (2016-2018) for various organic reactions are summarized.
Abstract: 1,2,3,5-Tetrakis(carbazol-9-yl)-4,6-dicyanobenzene (4CzIPN) is a typical donor–acceptor fluorophore, with carbazolyl as an electron donor and dicyanobenzene as an electron acceptor. It has emerged as a powerful organophotocatalyst since 2016. Excellent redox window, good chemical stability and broad applicability make 4CzIPN an attractive metal-free photocatalyst. In this review, the recent advances of the application of 4CzIPN as a photoredox catalyst in the past three years (2016–2018) for various organic reactions are summarized.

TL;DR: In this article, an eco-friendly and practical protocol for the synthesis of Z-vinyl thiocyanates through ultrasound-promoted Bronsted acid ionic liquid-catalyzed hydrothiocyclic synthesis of activated alkynes under minimal solvent conditions has been developed.
Abstract: By using water as the hydrogen source, an eco-friendly and practical protocol for the synthesis of Z-vinyl thiocyanates through ultrasound-promoted Bronsted acid ionic liquid-catalyzed hydrothiocyanation of activated alkynes under minimal solvent conditions has been developed. This process effectively avoids the use of organic solvents, metal catalysts and harsh reaction conditions. This reaction shows attractive characteristics such as operational simplicity, broad substrate scope with good to excellent yields, ease of scale-up and high energy efficiency and recyclable and reusable catalysts.

TL;DR: In this paper, a polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) assisted hydrothermal method was used to construct hierarchical nanostructures with a tetragonal phase.
Abstract: Controlled BiOBr hierarchical nanostructures (HNs) have been fabricated by a polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) assisted hydrothermal method. The as-synthesized samples have a tetragonal phase and are composed of primary plate-like nanostructures with a thickness from 10 to 300 nm. Hall Effect displays the new material is N-type semiconductor. The possible reaction and growth mechanism is also discussed based on contradistinctive experimental results. Concentration of PVP in the reaction mixture plays a key role for controllable structures and morphologies because PVP can attach on the (0 1 2) plane of the BiOBr HNs selectively and insulate the growth of this plane. In addition, PVP is used to manipulate the band gaps of products. The as-prepared BiOBr HNs possess narrow band gaps (1.75–2.5 eV), large surface areas, and uniform particle size. Moreover, photocatalytic degradation efficiencies of methyl orange (MO) of BiOBr samples are detected and the as-obtained results show an excellent photocatalytic capacity of BiOBr HNs under irradiation of visible light ( λ ⩾ 420 nm).

TL;DR: The first example of visible-light-induced deoxygenative C2-sulfonylation of quinoline N-oxides with sulfinic acids in the presence of an organic dye as the catalyst was developed in this article.
Abstract: The first example of visible-light-induced deoxygenative C2-sulfonylation of quinoline N-oxides with sulfinic acids in the presence of an organic dye as the catalyst was developed. The reaction conditions are eco-friendly and mild, employing ambient air as the sole oxidant and aqueous acetone solution as the solvent. This approach requires only a very low catalyst loading, allowing gram-scale preparation as well as late-stage modification of biologically active compounds bearing quinoline groups.
