TL;DR: Backscattering of MeV 4He ions has been used to analyze the Ga and As content in SiO2 and Si3N4 dielectric layers deposited on singlecrystal GaAs substrates.
Abstract: Backscattering of MeV 4He ions has been used to analyze the Ga and As content in SiO2 and Si3N4 dielectric layers deposited on single‐crystal GaAs substrates. Changes in impurity concentrations and distributions are seen after isothermal annealing at both 750 and 800°C. Evidence for Ga outdiffusion is clear.

TL;DR: Axons containing dense core vesicles seem to correspond to varicose monoaminergic fibres detected by a fluorescent histochemical method.
Abstract: Neuronal perikarya of the procerebrum of Helix and Limax are generally naked and lie side by side. The cell mass contains large numbers of axosomatic and axoaxonic synapses represented by boutons of two types; dense core vesicles (800–1200 A, in diameter) being characteristic of the first type and clusters of electron lucent vesicles (500–800 A) of the second. Endings of the two types occur also in the terminal mass of the neuropile while the internal mass contains peculiar axonal enlargements filled with fine twisted tubuli. Axons containing dense core vesicles seem to correspond to varicose monoaminergic fibres detected by a fluorescent histochemical method.

TL;DR: Twenty-one temperature-sensitive mutants of Semliki Forest virus were classified by measurement of their capacity to make virus RNA, and it was concluded that at high multiplicities the inducer was newly synthesized RNA.
Abstract: Summary Twenty-one temperature-sensitive mutants of Semliki Forest virus were classified by measurement of their capacity to make virus RNA. The RNA+ mutants were defective in a very early step in virus multiplication; possibly in the formation of functional polymerase enzyme. The RNA+ mutants investigated were all defective in their capacity to make the virus envelope protein. All the mutants were capable of inducing interferon formation but two different types of induction could be distinguished. At high multiplicities, both classes of mutant and the wild type induced interferon production without requiring virus RNA synthesis, while at lower multiplicities interferon production depended on the synthesis of virus RNA. It was concluded that at high multiplicities the inducer was newly synthesized RNA. However, a number of the RNA+ mutants were less efficient interferon inducers than the wild type, and at low multiplicities synthesised virus RNA but not interferon.

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the linear sum of two Borel subsets of the real line need not be Borel, even if one of them is compact and the other is Gt.

TL;DR: Protection was defined as the difference between the first-order rate constants of inactivation measured in the absence and in the presence of substrate ( Δk ), and it was found that the ternary complex was formed in a compulsory order, with pyruvate being bound only to the lactate dehydrogenase-NAD+ complex and not to the free enzyme.

TL;DR: Backscattering and channeling effect measurements with MeV 4He ions were used to determine the depth dependence of the composition of amorphous silicon nitride layers on single‐crystal silicon.
Abstract: Backscattering and channeling effect measurements with MeV 4He ions were used to determine the depth dependence of the composition of amorphous silicon nitride layers on single‐crystal silicon. The composition was stoichiometric over the entire layer for high ratios of NH3 to SiH4 used in the deposition reaction at 850°C. For lower ratios, a silicon excess was found, and in extreme cases, the silicon excess was located predominantly near the interface.

TL;DR: Heat denaturation studies indicate that the alkylated enzyme is less stable than the native one and that alkylation damages the phosphate binding sites of aldolase, and the loose enzyme-phosphate complex is rendered undetectable.
Abstract: We have previously shown in 1969 that three out of seven cysteinyl residues per subunit can be selectively carboxymethylate in rabbit muscle aldolase with bromoacetate with the concomitant loss of enzymic activity. Kinetic analysis has shown that inactivation was due to the blocking of the second SH-group (Cys-II) in the order of decreasing reactivity towards the reagent. In the present work we present evidence that Pi protects Cys-II from carboxymethylation whereas it has no effect on the alkylation of Cys-I. The partial sequence analysis of the tryptic peptides containing Cys-I, Cys-II, and Cys-III is also presented. Heat denaturation studies indicate that the alkylated enzyme is less stable than the native one and that alkylation damages the phosphate binding sites of aldolase. The apparent dissociation constant of the tight enzyme-phosphate complex is increased by one order of magnitude, and the loose enzyme-phosphate complex is rendered undetectable.

Abstract: Silicon layers were deposited epitaxially on natural facets of solution-grown ZnSiP2 crystals by hydrogen reduction of SiHCl3. Orientation relationships between the diamondstructured layer and the chalcopyrite type substrate were determined giving the results: (112) ZnSiP2 parallel to (111) Si and (101) ZnSiP2 parallel to (201) Si. Structural and some electrical properties of the heterojunctions were investigated. Considerations concerning the misfit dislocations are presented.

TL;DR: This article measured the vapour pressure isotope effect (VPIE) between H218O and H216O ice from −17° C to 0° C and obtained results in disagreement with those reported by Matsuo and Matsubaya1.
Abstract: WE have measured the vapour pressure isotope effect (VPIE) between H218O and H216O ice from −17° C to 0° C and have obtained results in disagreement with those reported by Matsuo and Matsubaya1. In order to check our measurements we have also determined the VPIE in the liquid phase and obtained results in good agreement with Szapiro and Steckel2. Also we have calculated from the present data an ice–liquid fractionation factor in good agreement with O'Neil's directly measured value of 1.0030 ± 0.0002 (ref. 3).

Abstract: The activation cross-section of176Lu and σLu/σln ratio for several 1,3–80 kCi60Co γ-sources have been determined. The values found on the basis of isomer activity are σLu = 23−47 nb nb and σLu/σln = 0,65−0,93. The partial widths of the activation levels are estimated from the integrated cross-section values for115In 1,08 MeV level:Γo = 3,4 · 10−3 eV andΓm = 0,2 · 10−3 eV and for176Lu:176Lu: gΛm ≈ 10−4 eV.
