TL;DR: In this article, the authors identify both the environment and actor-related origins of heterogeneity in factor markets and highlight how actor perceptions result in heterogeneous outcomes and how the identification of novel affordances (new uses or functions) for factors is a central origin of heterogeneity.
Abstract: In this article we challenge the notion of the efficiency of factor markets and provide an alternative. We specifically identify both the environment- and actor-related origins of heterogeneity in markets. We first discuss how environments have an exaptive nature, where new uses and possibilities emerge continuously and are poised for the taking. We then highlight how actor perceptions result in heterogeneous outcomes and how the identification of novel affordances — new uses or functions — for factors is a central origin of heterogeneity. We also discuss the existence of actor- and environment-related pressures toward homogeneity and seeming market efficiency. In conclusion we highlight the implications of our arguments for the strategy and innovation debate, and for our understanding of the nature of markets and economic activity.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examine the relationship between employees' proactive personality and their individual creativity in the context of visionary leadership behavior and demonstrate that the link between an employee's informal leadership status and his/his individual creativity is moderated by formal leaders' visionary behaviour.
Abstract: Based on the social perspective on creativity, which highlights the importance of social network parameters for individual creativity, this study examines the relationship between employees’ proactive personality and their individual creativity in the context of visionary leadership behaviour. Using survey data from 247 employees and their direct supervisors from54work teams inChina, wefind that informal leadership statusmediates the relationship between an employee’s proactive personality and his/her creativity. We also demonstrate that the link between an employee’s informal leadership status and his/ her individual creativity is moderated by formal leaders’ visionary behaviour. Overall, a moderated-mediation model is established such that, when a formal leader shows a high level of visionary behaviour, the relationship between an employee’s proactive personality and his/her creativity via informal leadership status is stronger than with a low level of visionary leader behaviour.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explore longitudinal relationships between job demands, job resources, and recovery opportunities and find that job demands and job resources are positively associated with job recovery opportunities over time.
Abstract: The aim of this study was to explore longitudinal relationships between job demands, job resources, and recovery opportunities. On the basis of the Job Demands-Resources model and Conservation of Resources theory we hypothesized that we would find reciprocal relations between job demands, job resources, and recovery opportunities over time. The sample was composed of 502 employees from a chemical processing company in the Netherlands, and we used a time lag of 1 year. Results of structural equation modeling analyses supported our hypotheses. Specifically, it was found that Time 1 (T1) workload was negatively related and autonomy positively related to Time 2 (T2) recovery opportunities. Additionally, T1 recovery opportunities had a negative effect on T2 workload and positive effects on autonomy and feedback. Overall, the findings suggest the presence of a positive upward spiral between job demands, job resources, and recovery opportunities.

TL;DR: This article examined the relationship between audit committee (AC) members' social capital and financial reporting quality using US data for the period 2001-2010, and found that non-AC directors' socially capital does not appear to be relevant to financial reporting.
Abstract: We draw on social capital theory to examine the relationship between audit committee (AC) members’ social capital and financial reporting quality. Using US data for the period 2001–2010, our results suggest that non-AC directors’ social capital does not appear to be relevant to financial reporting quality. As far as AC members are concerned, our findings show a negative relationship between their social capital and financial reporting quality, suggesting a ‘dark side’ to social capital. Specifically, we find that sitting in multiple ACs (centrality) has a negative impact on reporting quality only for those AC members designated as financial experts. When other proxies for social capital are considered (connectedness, brokerage position and strong ties), our results show that the quality of financial reporting significantly decreases with the social capital of non-financial experts sitting in the AC. We contribute to prior research by: (i) relying on social capital theory, which is widely neglected in acco...
