TL;DR: In this article, the idea of an outlier robust bias correction for these estimators was developed and also proposed two different analytical mean squared error estimators for the ensuring bias corrected estimators.
Abstract: Recently proposed outlier robust small area estimators can be substantially biased when outliers are drawn from a distribution that has a different mean from that of the rest of the survey data. This naturally leads down to the idea of an outlier robust bias correction for these estimators. In this paper we develop this idea and also propose two different analytical mean squared error estimators for the ensuring bias corrected outlier robust estimators. Simulations based on realistic outlier contaminated data show that the proposed bias correction often leads to more efficient estimators. Furthermore the proposed mean squared error estimators appear to perform well with a variety of outlier robust smal area estimators.

TL;DR: Using comparative genomics, pairwise dependencies between 5'ss nucleotides are identified as a conserved feature of the entire set of 5's and suggest that 5's's SNPs play a role in complex diseases.
Abstract: Many human diseases, including Fanconi anemia, hemophilia B, neurofibromatosis, and phenylketonuria, can be caused by 5'-splice-site (5'ss) mutations that are not predicted to disrupt splicing, according to position weight matrices. By using comparative genomics, we identify pairwise dependencies between 5'ss nucleotides as a conserved feature of the entire set of 5'ss. These dependencies are also conserved in human-mouse pairs of orthologous 5'ss. Many disease-associated 5'ss mutations disrupt these dependencies, as can some human SNPs that appear to alter splicing. The consistency of the evidence signifies the relevance of this approach and suggests that 5'ss SNPs play a role in complex diseases.

TL;DR: An investigation was undertaken to explore the biocidal efficacy of fungicidal compound(s) produced by Calothrix elenkenii against damping-off disease in three vegetable crops-tomato, chilli and brinjal and revealed the superiority of seed treatment with ethyl acetate extracts, in terms of percent mortality and plant parameters.
Abstract: An investigation was undertaken to explore the biocidal efficacy of fungicidal compound(s) produced by Calothrix elenkenii against damping-off disease in three vegetable crops-tomato, chilli and brinjal. Treatments included application of seeds soaked in water (control), culture filtrate and ethyl acetate extract of Calothrix elenkenii and Metalaxyl in potting mix inoculated with Pythium aphanidermatum in plastic pots. The observations taken after a period of four weeks revealed the superiority of seed treatment with ethyl acetate extracts, in terms of percent mortality and plant parameters. ANOVA revealed that the treatments, crops (tomato, chilli and brinjal) and their interactions exerted a significant influence on the parameters analyzed. Chilli recorded the highest percentage of survivors and responded best to the seed treatment with ethyl acetate extract of Calothrix elenkenii. Future work is being undertaken towards formulation of a biocontrol agent using Calothrix elenkenii and understanding the m...

TL;DR: In this article, the results suggest that TEAC may be more useful than DPPH assay for detecting total AOX in tomatoes, which may serve as the most desirable gene pool in breeding programmes to develop functional tomatoes.
Abstract: Ten commercial and three exotic/wild cultivars (cvs) grown under Indian conditions were analyzed for variations in lycopene, β-carotene, total phenolics, quercetin, ascorbic acid and antioxidant activity (AOX). AOX was measured using three in vitro assays namely ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC) assays. The lycopene content in tomato cvs ranged from 4.31 to 5.97 mg/100 g fw. The wild/exotic cvs had exceptionally high total phenolic content (141.98 mg/100 g fw), quercetin (56 μg/g fw) and total AOX (5.39 μmol TE/g fw). Solanum pimpinellifolium , with nearly six times lycopene content than commercial cvs, may serve as the most desirable gene pool in breeding programmes to develop functional tomatoes. Results suggest that TEAC may be more useful than DPPH assay for detecting total AOX in tomatoes.
