TL;DR: The experimental results presented in this paper show that Gain Ratio gives the best performance for sentimental feature selection, and SVM performs better than other techniques for sentiment based classification.
Abstract: Sentiment analysis is performed to extract opinion and subjectivity knowledge from user generated text content. This is contextually different from traditional topic based text classification since it involves classifying opinionated text according to the sentiment conveyed by it. Feature selection is a critical task in sentiment analysis and effectively selected representative features from subjective text can improve sentiment based classification. This paper explores the applicability of five commonly used feature selection methods in data mining research (DF, IG, GR, CHI and Relief-F) and seven machine learning based classification techniques (Naive Bayes, Support Vector Machine, Maximum Entropy, Decision Tree, K-Nearest Neighbor, Winnow, Adaboost) for sentiment analysis on online movie reviews dataset. The paper demonstrates that feature selection does improve the performance of sentiment based classification, but it depends on the method adopted and the number of feature selected. The experimental results presented in this paper show that Gain Ratio gives the best performance for sentimental feature selection, and SVM performs better than other techniques for sentiment based classification.

TL;DR: In this article, a database of more than 140,000 ideas, innovations and traditional knowledge practices has been pooled mainly from 500 districts of India and some other parts of the world.
Abstract: The concern for inclusive or harmonious development is being articulated worldwide. There is a belated realisation that for extreme affordability, there is no choice but to learn from green grassroots innovators and traditional knowledge holders. Honey Bee Network began scouting, spawning and sustaining innovations by knowledge rich-economically poor people more than 20 years ago. A database of more than 140,000 ideas, innovations and traditional knowledge practices has been pooled mainly from 500 districts of India and some other parts of the world. Blending formal and informal science has become imperative. Several new models have been proposed such as long tailored innovations, Kho Kho (relay) model, empathetic innovations, inverted innovations, and grassroots to global (g2G) to illustrate different dimension of innovations for the poor by the poor. The policy implications of these models have been drawn briefly besides explaining the conditions, which must be met for inclusive innovations.

TL;DR: In this paper, a study of 401 primary school teachers in India, the dimensions of psychological empowerment were self-rated whereas innovative behavior and job involvement were assessed by colleagues, and the mediating role of job involvement in this relationship was examined.
Abstract: Past studies have established the importance of psychological empowerment in fostering innovative behavior. This paper broadens the conceptual understanding by exploring the mechanisms of this linkage through dimensional analysis. The study also examines the mediating role of job involvement in this relationship. In this study of 401 women primary school teachers in India, the dimensions of psychological empowerment were self-rated whereas innovative behavior and job involvement were assessed by colleagues. Our findings show partial mediation for the meaning dimension and complete mediation for the non-work domain control dimension. Self-determination at job and organization levels have a direct effect on employees’ innovative behavior but no effect through job involvement. Competence and impact has no direct or indirect effect on innovative behavior.

TL;DR: This paper provides an overview of different formulations of the SRFLP and provides exact and heuristic approaches that have been used to solve SRFLPs, and also presents details about the benchmark instances widely used in the literature.
Abstract: The single row facility layout problem (SRFLP) is a NP-hard problem concerned with the arrangement of facilities of given lengths on a line so as to minimize the weighted sum of the distances between all the pairs of facilities. The SRFLP and its special cases often arise while modeling a large variety of applications. It has been actively researched until the mid-nineties, and then again since 2005. Interestingly, research on many aspects of this problem is still in the initial stages, and hence the SRFLP is an interesting problem to work on. In this paper, we review the literature on the SRFLP and comment on its relationship with other layout problems. We then provide an overview of different formulations of the problem that appear in the literature. We provide exact and heuristic approaches that have been used to solve SRFLPs, and also present details about the benchmark instances widely used in the literature. We finally point out research gaps and promising directions for future research on this problem.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors highlighted the crucial influence of the organizational agenda and the Indian sociocultural milieu on the effectiveness of high commitment management (HCM) practices in reducing negative features associated with work in mass-production call centres.
Abstract: Considerable debate exists in the West about the effectiveness of high commitment management (HCM) practices in reducing the negative features associated with work in mass-production call centres. This debate has been glossed over the Indian context. Addressing the gap by critically examining the role of HCM practices in Indian call centres, this article highlights the crucial influence of the organizational agenda and the Indian sociocultural milieu. The findings support the crossvergence thesis while confirming that HCM practices rarely undermine the organizational imperative of control. Indeed, organizational interests prevail, being manifest via the ‘sacrificial HR strategy’. Clearly, employer organizations committed to promoting employee well-being and reducing attrition need to examine issues of job design, task demands and psychological contract obligations apart from implementing HCM practices.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors argue for refocusing attention on the concept of work alienation in management studies as distinct from other related concepts, arguing that the negative experience of work has traditionally been captured by concepts such as burnout/cynicism and counterproductive work behaviours/deviance.
Abstract: Purpose – Although alienation as a concept has a rich history, it has suffered relative neglect in organizational studies and one possible reason for the same is its conceptual ambiguity vis‐a‐vis popular and long‐standing concepts of commitment/identification, satisfaction and engagement, that represent the positive experience of work and which have sometimes been equated as the opposite of work alienation. Similarly, the negative experience of work has traditionally been captured by concepts such as burnout/cynicism and counterproductive work behaviours/deviance. The purpose of this paper is to argue for refocusing attention on the concept of work alienation in management studies as distinct from other related concepts.Design/methodology/approach – The methodology integrated research from both quantitative and qualitative approaches.Findings – Through the analysis of the concept of alienation, along with other related concepts, the conceptual space for the study of alienation in organizational studies i...

TL;DR: In this article, an expectancy theory-based framework was developed to model consumers' information search and its antecedents, including motivation to search as an intervening construct, using data from real consumers engaged in their actual purchase decisions.
Abstract: Purpose – Existing literature offers conflicting evidence on how prior product knowledge influences amount of information search A majority of these studies are based on variants of cost benefit frameworks where consumers engage in search until the benefits from information search exceed search costs The purpose of this paper is to develop an expectancy theory‐based framework to model consumers' information search and its antecedents, including motivation to search as an intervening constructDesign/methodology/approach – The framework is tested using data from real consumers engaged in their actual purchase decisions, in an emerging market context, using longitudinal survey research design The data are analysed using structural equation modeling to test the hypothesized model The model shows an acceptable fit with X2 (271, 487)=640252, p < 000 and 095 CFIFindings – Results indicate that the relationship between prior product knowledge to information search is mediated by motivation to search Pri

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors study organizations with individuals whose expertise differ in content and breadth, and they show that an organization is more valuable and its leader has broader expertise if it is more complex, faces more unpredictability, and those higher in multilayered hierarchies have broader expertise.
Abstract: We study organizations with individuals whose expertise differ in content and breadth. For example, specialists have deeper expertise than generalists, but in fewer areas. Difficulties in communication depend on who communicates with whom. Our analysis, which is consistent with several empirical findings, shows that: (i) an organization is more valuable and its leader has broader expertise if it is more complex, faces more unpredictability, or communication technologies improve; (ii) those higher in multilayered hierarchies have broader expertise; and (iii) any one-dimensional concept (e.g., talent) cannot explain the assignment of different individuals to different levels in hierarchies.

TL;DR: A sentiment classification model using back-propagation artificial neural network (BPANN) is proposed that combines the strength of BPANN in classification accuracy with utilizing intrinsic domain knowledge available in the sentiment lexicons.
Abstract: The Internet and Web 2.0 social media have emerged as an important medium for expressing sentiments, opinions, evaluations, and reviews. Sentiment analysis or opinion mining is becoming an open research domain due to the abundance of discussion forums, Weblogs, e-commerce portals, social networking and content sharing sites where people tend to express their opinions. Sentiment Analysis involves classifying text documents based on the opinion expressed being positive or negative about a given topic. This paper proposes a sentiment classification model using back-propagation artificial neural network (BPANN). Information Gain and three popular sentiment lexicons are used to extract sentiment representing features that are then used to train and test the BPANN. This novel approach combines the strength of BPANN in classification accuracy with utilizing intrinsic domain knowledge available in the sentiment lexicons. The results obtained on the movie-review corpora have shown that the proposed approach has been able to reduce dimensionality, while producing accurate sentiment based classification of text.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the market impact of a unique IPO certification recently introduced in India - mandatory grading of IPOs by a credit rating agency, which was expected to improve the IPO pricing efficiency by providing comprehensive issue-related information to the market.
Abstract: The paper examines the market impact of a unique IPO certification recently introduced in India - mandatory grading of IPOs by a credit rating agency. The grading was expected to improve the IPO pricing efficiency by providing comprehensive issue-related information to the market, especially to the retail investors. The results indicate that grading has only a limited influence on the IPO demand of retail and institutional investors. The low grade issues appear to have weaker demand from investors relative to the ungraded IPOs. But there is no evidence to support IPO pricing improvement due to the introduction of IPO grading. This is contrary to the evidence reported by some earlier studies. This suggests the failure of grading as an IPO certification.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed that leaders who value people, productivity, and participation help teams work effectively and productively by encouraging team members to discuss their diverse views open-mindedly.
Abstract: Leading teams effectively is a challenge for organizations in many countries. This study proposes that leaders who value people, productivity, and participation help teams work effectively and productively by encouraging team members to discuss their diverse views open-mindedly. Working in diverse organizations in India, team leaders indicated their participation, people, and productivity values and team members rated their constructive controversy and their effectiveness and performance. Structural equation analysis suggested that productivity values affect constructive controversy and team effectiveness and productivity. However, contrary to expectations based on the idea that India is a collectivist society, people values were not predictive. The study's findings and previous research were interpreted as suggesting that leader productivity values coupled with constructive controversy provide a foundation for effective teamwork in India.

TL;DR: It is suggested that the most preferred value that determines mall preference by Indian customers is HV, followed by SV, contrary to the stereotype that Indian customers are price sensitive.
Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to develop a structured model to understand mall preferences among Indian customers.Design/methodology/approach – The present study uses fuzzy analytical hierarchy processing (FAHP). Use of Fuzzy Logic will provide a more reliable solution since it is capable of handling vagueness and uncertainty in the database.Findings – Findings of the study suggest that the most preferred value that determines mall preference by Indian customers is HV, followed by SV, contrary to the stereotype that Indian customers are price sensitive. Forum mall is the best mall in terms of HV and SV, which motivates customers to shop at a particular mall.Practical implications – The study will be useful for managers and academicians. The study will help managers develop a better understanding of customer's mall preferences and identify their own strengths and weaknesses. Based on this, they can devise strategies to maximize strengths by minimizing weaknesses.Originality/value – Most of the wor...

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the coverage of basic primary healthcare services among the below the poverty line (BPL) population in rural areas of India and provided direct empirical evidence.
Abstract: The 11th Five-Year Plan of India emphasises the wider and better coverage of services, such as primary healthcare for the majority of population. For this purpose, various healthcare related programmes have aimed at the vulnerable sections of the society traditionally using social criteria like Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) populations. Although they are found to have marginally worse health outcomes than the national average, they are far better than the one’s for the poor on economic criteria. The present article examines the coverage of basic primary healthcare services among the below the poverty line (BPL) population in rural areas of India and provides direct empirical evidence. Data used for the study was from a primary sample survey of rural BPL households in six states of India. The results of the survey showed that the coverage of primary healthcare services, such as ante-natal care (ANC), institutional deliveries, and immunisation was very low among the BPL population. TL;DR: In this article, the impact of corporate governance in the determination of firm value in the manufacturing firms in India has been studied and it is found that the firm value is significantly affected by the corporate governance variables for manufacturing firms.
Abstract: In this work an attempt is made to study the impact of corporate governance in the determination of firm value in the manufacturing firms in India. The purposing sampling method was adopted while choosing the sample firms that are listed in Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). Out of 6000 firms listed in BSE, banking, insurance, financial firms were excluded as they are governed different bodes and their accounts and differently structured. Foreign firms, companies acquired during the period of investigation were also excluded, so the researchers choose a sample of 1732 firms and the relevant data were collected during the period 2001 to 2010. The data were analyzed using a multiple regression analysis to identify the factors that affect firm value. It is found that the firm value is significantly affected by the corporate governance variables for manufacturing firms.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a framework to prioritize and rank CSFs using analytical hierarchy process (AHP) one of the widely accepted multi-criteria decision making method (MCDM).
Abstract: The Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Adoption by Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) has invoked immense interest in the research community. Though ERP is believed as a key technology enabler and an effective management tool for organizations, the SMEs are faced with cost, resource and time limitations to adopt ERP into their business. Hence it is important to identify certain critical success factors that could be referred by SMEs to gain confidence in adopting ERP. The existing literature was explored and thirty Critical Success Factors (CSFs were identified for SMEs. The ERP adoption journey involves five sequential decision stages/phases namely planning, acquisition, implementation, usage and percolation and extension. We propose a framework to prioritize and rank CSFs using analytical hierarchy process (AHP) one of the widely accepted multi-criteria decision making method (MCDM).
